Germany 1933

In 1973, a school board in North Dakota
ordered the burning of "objectionable" books.
Lockers were searched when students
refused to hand over novels.
Sri Lanka 1981
Following the shooting of 3 policemen,
security officials went on a rampage and
burned down the library. More than 95 000
books were destroyed.
Great Britian 1988
Bosnia 1992
Serbian nationalists bombed
the library and set it on fire. They shot
anyone who tried to save the books.
1.5 million books were destroyed.
Since 2001 there have been at least 6 book burnings in the US involving Harry Potter books.
Canada: 2004
In Montreal, the United Talmud Torah school library was set on fire, destroying 15 000 books, in response to conflict in the Middle East. An 18 year old was sentenced to 40 months in jail for the crime.

The Da Vinci Code.
Salman Rushdie goes
into hiding after writing
The Satanic Versus.
German extremists burned copies of
The Diary of Anne Frank.
Florida pastor, Terry Jones, planned to
hold a public burning of the
Qur'an on September 11, 2010. He postponed the burning after world wide pressure.
However; copycat burnings did happen
in Tenn. and Kansas.
This led to world wide protests, including one where 18 people died in Kashmir.
213BC. is the date of the
first recorded book buring.
This happened in China.
