Transcript of Somalia Genocide

Somalia Genocide The genocide started January 26, 1991.

They started the genocide beacuase the government was slowly losing control of the state. The Start 350,000 to 1,000,000 Somalis had died becuase of the conflict. How Somalia was formed - Somalia was formed by the union of British Somaliland & Italian Somaliland, while French Somaliland became Djibouti. All the fighting among rival faction leaders resulted in the killing, dislocation, and starvation of thousands of Somalis & led the United Nations to intervene militarily in 1992. Somalia had been without a stable cental government since dictator Mohmed Siad Barre fled the country in 1991. There is NO national government in Somalia. In the whole history of Somalia, this type of crisis has never taken place. The formation of the states and cities that made the Somalia an integrated country was runed like anything. The mass killing or genocide increased in such manner that the government finally had to transfer most of the people in the country to a safer place. The Somalia genocide also affected the other countries of Africa. Siad Barre, a long time Somalian leader, was forced to leave his position in the year 1991. That was the main reason, which led to the beginning of Somalia genocide. Becuase this happened most of Barre's people took out there anger and started killing large amounts of people who supported the opposition party. Islamic
