In the beginning of the book, Ponyboy was talking about how he likes to be away from all the chaos and people. He is a perfect example of
When Johnny dies, Dallas (Dally), feels isolated from humanity. Johnny was the only thing Dally ever loved and cared for. And now even that is gone (Hinton 149).
when sunsets are described, they are talked about as being peaceful. When Ponyboy, Cherry, or Johnny are watching this spectacular, they feel isolated from the rest of the world. They feel as if the whole world is only the sunset, their thoughts, and themselves. Sunsets are the only part of the book that show that everyone is equal (Hinton 77).
A symbol is something that stands for itself and also represents a larger idea.
This picture represents
because the man in the picture is away from everyone and everything else. The picture shows that alienation can be a sad thing for some people because of the man's body motions and the dark colors of the sketch.
The American flag represents itself because it stands for America, but it also represents the large idea of freedom.
The meaning of country is peaceful lifestyle. Evidence for this is the fact that the country has no Socs or greasers. Everthing is peaceful and everyone is equal.
The abandoned church was Johnny and Ponys last time together. It was peaceful and quiet. It gave Pony and Johnny a chance to get away from all the commotion of the city.
