The Crucible Playlist
Transcript of The Crucible Playlist
This song relates to the relationship that Abby and John Proctor had. Towards the end of the relationship, John pushed Abby away but Abby still had feelings for him.
"You walk by on the street
Take my breath from me
You're out of my reach
You're all that I see."
Metallica "The Shortest Straw"
This song relates to how Judge Danforth was pushing for the Witch Hunt to keep going on. He hung many people that were innocent and had nothing to with the With Hunt. It was a "mass hysteria".
"A Mass Hysteria
In Vertigo You Will Be"
Hozier "Take Me To Church"
This song relates to how the life style of the Puritans was focused around the church. When the Witch Hunt happens, people are falsely accused of being a witch and they confess to it, but are still hanged.
"Take me to church
I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife
Offer me that deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life"
Sam Smith "I'm Not The Only One"
This song relates to John and Elizabeth's relationship. When Elizabeth has her suspicions on John cheating on her with Abby again, Elizabeth gets frustrated but she isn't letting John go.
"You say I'm crazy
'Cause you don't think I know what you've done
But when you call me baby
I know I'm not the only one
You've been so unavailable
Now sadly I know why
Your heart is unobtainable
Even though Lord knows you kept mine"
"Another Witch Story"
Rush "Witch Hunt"
The title of this song describes "The Crucible". This song tells what it was like to be going through the Witch Hunt in that time period.
"Features distorted in the flickering light
The faces are twisted and grotesque
Silent and stern in the sweltering night
The mob moves like demons possessed
Quiet in conscience, calm in their right
Confident their ways are best"
This song explains what the Puritans could have thought before they moved to the U.S. to get out of their strict religion and live a better life.
"You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you will join us
And the world will live as one"
The Machine "Dog Days Are Over"
The lyrics of this song relate to all the people who are being accused of witch craft. All of the people are trying to survive and the only way they could would be to get out of town.
"Run fast for your mother, run fast for your father
Run for your children, for your sisters and brothers
Leave all your love and your longing
You can't carry it with you if you want to survive"
Glee "Ding-Dong! The Witch Is Dead"
This song explains the look on people's faces when they watched people be hanged because they were accused of being bewitched.
"Once there was a wicked witch
In the lovely land of Oz
And a wicked old, wicked old, wicked old witch that never ever was"
Fall Out Boy "Centuries"
The lyrics describe what John Proctor wanted everyone to think of him. He didn't lie and confess to being bewitched. He wanted everyone is Salem not to give.
"Some legends are told
Some turn to dust or to gold
But you will remember me
Remember me for centuries
And just one mistake
Is all it will take."
Ella Henderson "Ghost"
Many people say that they saw a different person's spirit next to them haunting them in their sleep.
"I keep going to the river to pray
'Cause I need something that can wash all the pain
And at most I'm sleeping all these demons away
But your ghost, the ghost of you
It keeps me awake"
High School Musical "Stick to the Status Quo"
This song relates to how once Abigail comes out with her "secret" about being attacked by a witch, other people start faking their attack from the devil.
"You can bet there's nothin' but net
When I am in the zone and on a roll
But I got a confession, my own secret obsession
And it's makin me lose control
Everybody gather 'round
Well if Troy can tell his secret than I can tell mine"
Phil Collins "Son of Man"
This song relates to how John Proctor is deciding to be a man and to tell the truth and not to let the court overrule his manhood.
"Though there's no one there to guide you
No one to take your hand
But with faith and understanding
You will journey from boy to man"
Don Mclean "American Pie"
This song describes how everyone's attitude was towards the Witch Hunt trial and when John Proctor was hanged.
"I can't remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride
But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died"
Linkin Park "Numb"
This is the last song in the playlist describing how Judge Danforth felt like he was losing control when John Proctor said that he wasn't going to tell everyone that he had confessed before he changed his mind.
"Can't you see that you're smothering me,
Holding too tightly, afraid to lose control?
'Cause everything that you thought I would be
Has fallen apart right in front of you."
