The conflict in this book is that Mark wants to climb a mount Rainier which was a promise he made to his grandpa. But he is not in good physical health. Mark has cancer and before he can receive the life saving treatment he runs away to complete his promise he made to his grandpa and to confront his fear of death.

Beau is Mark's dog and never leaves him no matter what. Beau joins Mark on his incredible adventure and saves him from near death many times
Jessie Rodriguez is a teenager who has been Marks best friends since they were in Kindergarten and when Mark goes missing, she is the only one who knows where he went
Wesley is the man who helped Mark get to the Mount Rainier and sent rescue crews after him
Mark is a teenager who is sick with cancer. Mark thinks that he is going to die and he wants to die. But before he dies, he wants to complete a promise he made to his grandpa which was to climb Mount Rainier.The setting changes through the book. On his journey Mark stays and sleeps in many different places like an island, a bus, and street corner.
The rising action in the book The Honest Truth is when Mark runs away from home right before he is supposed to receive treatment for his ongoing cancer battle. He runs away because he is afraid he is going to die and he would rather die fulfilling a promise he made to his grandpa than in a hospital bed. Mark can only complete this mission if Jessie keeps his mission a secret.The turning point in this book is when Mark almost calls the cops and turns himself in at a Mexican restaurant. He finds new determination when he looks at his dog and decides to continue on his mission. The falling action in The Honest Truth is when Mark passes out under a bluff on Mount Rainier and Beau goes and gets help from the lodge.
The resolution of this book is when Mark's dog, Beau runs down the mountain and leads a rescue team up a mountain.To where Mark is passed out, under an overhang. The rescue team then takes Mark to hospital where he recovers from his trip and continues to fight the cancer in his body.
This was a one of the best books I've read. There are a lot of life lessons you can learn from this book. There are a couple sad parts in the book, but all in all it was a very good and interesting book. I recommend this Book for grades 4-8. If you read this book you will not be disappointed.
