What does BC ELN do? Database Licensing
Collaboration Interlibrary Sharing AskAway: Library Help via Chat BC ELN negotiates consortium licenses for research databases on behalf of partner libraries. Licensing costs are shared among participating institutions.

85+ databases licensed by BC ELN provide access to over 55 000 full text titles
Consortium discounts offer 25-50% off list price BC ELN facilitates interlibrary resource sharing among partner libraries so that learners will have timely access to the collective information resources.

Coordinated interlibrary lending network provides access to over 14 million unique items
Single point of entry to the collections of BC’s post-secondary and public libraries BC ELN Mission BC ELN currently has over 30 partner libraries, including all public post-secondary institutions in BC and Yukon.

BC ELN operates with core funding from the Province of British Columbia, with additional project funding and staff time contributed by partner libraries AskAway is a BC and Yukon post-secondary online chat reference service operated by BC ELN and its partner libraries.

Each library staffs from 3-34 hours per week, in return for 200+ staff hours of reference service per week

The mission of the BC Electronic Library Network (BC ELN) is to provide superior and equitable information access for all learners, educators and researchers by extending the expertise and resources of BC post-secondary libraries. Collaborations and Initiatives The British Columbia Electronic Library Network (BC ELN) is a partnership between the Province of British Columbia and its post-secondary libraries.

BC ELN’s purpose is to develop, promote and maintain system-wide mechanisms that allow post-secondary libraries to meet the expanding information needs of the province’s learners, educators, and researchers at the lowest possible cost. What is BC ELN? AskAway is a provincial post-secondary chat reference service operated by BC ELN and its partner libraries.It provides expert research help to learners at their point-of-need; students can access real-time help from home, their smartphones, inside the library, or anywhere else with internet access. Electronic Health Library of BC is a library consortium that purchases province-wide access to selected health knowledge resources. BC ELN serves as e-HLbc’s administrative centre. BC ELN hosts and maintains ALPS LINK, a repository of learning objects for academic librarians, and the Academic Resource Toolbox, a suite of information literacy tutorials. Consortia Canada is a coalition of library consortia, including BC ELN, working together to licence information resources on a national level. BC ELN coordinates two licenses for feature film public performance rights in BC and the prairie provinces. BC ELN is a member of the BC Digitization Coalition, working together towards the creation of a provincial digitization strategy.
