Queer Theory
Deterring from the norm
"Queer is by definition whatever is at odds with the normal, the legitimate, the dominant. There is nothing in particular to which it necessarily refers. It is an identity without an essence."
It's not (necessarily) just a view on sexuality, or gender. It also suggests that the confines of any identity can be reconfigured
Used to insult homosexuals and transvestites previously
LGBT communities adapted this word as something they could be proud of rather than allowing it to shame them
Gender Roles
Talcott Parsons: Sex Role Theory
Structural functionalism argues that the sexual division of labour exists to fulfill necessary functions
Suggests that the nuclear family is the ideal arrangement in modern societies because it fulfills the function of reproducing workers

Sigmund Freud: Psychoanalytic Theories
Emphasized early interactions with parents in determining masculine and feminine personality structures
