History of MBTI – Where did it come from? How was this born? To make the world a better place.
a. 1915: pivotal year
1. Katherine Cook Briggs meets her prospective son in law (Clarence Myers) for first time.
a. His personality so different from rest of her familiar she thought:
“How am I ever gong to communicate with him?
b. At the same time, WWI…the “war to end all wars” was raging.
c. Katherine thought: How can we get people to understand each other and end war?
d. She started reading biographies, and asking people questions …written on
3 x 5 cards.
e. 20 years later, she and her daughter, who had joined the project who had a new degree in personnel management, put the finishing touches on their ground breaking instrument.
f. They spent the next 37 years perfecting it.
g. In 1959, they signed a contract with ETS (educational testing service). The MBTI was born and to this date, has been translated into dozens of languages, with over 20,000 research studies conducted.
History of the Keirsey
a. It is the public domain version of the Myers-Briggs.
b. It does not require any special training to give the inventory. For example you could use this for any professional development activity at your school.

Why Study leadership style in the first place?
The purpose of this lesson is to learn about yourself and also to realize how many different types of leaders there are.
There is no one style that is a better leader than another.
Your Assignment:
1. Take the Keirsey Personality Inventory by clicking the link on the next slide.
2. You are to find out what your leadership style is (Guardian, Artisan, Idealist, Rational)and what are your 4 letters(ex. ENJF) that best describe you?
3. Watch all the videos to help understand yourself and to complete your next assignment.

My Myers-Briggs (Keirsey) Letters: What Do They Mean?

1. As a leader, you have to adapt. There is one of you and MANY staff members.
2. They might not think like you.
3. As we age…other sides of our temperament start to come out...
IF we are open that. And if not, we become more rigid in our behavior. Do you know of anyone who has not aged well and is rigid in their behavior?
