Why do you need your resume?
Resume Basics
Should be 1 page
Bullet points!! Not paragraphs
Stay consistent (punctuation, font, headings)
Begin each bullet with an action verb
Match action verb to skill being portrayed
Include the result of the action and quantify when possible
Example: Increased worker productivity by 15% through implementation of new training program.
Should go in reverse chronological order
School, City, State
Full degree title and date of completion
High School education can be included if relevant, but should not be included after 1 year of college.
Study abroad and certifications can be included here
Reverse chronological order-more relevant experiences can be laid out in different sections (i,e. Prof vs. leadership)
Organization, location, dates & position
Include: Internships, jobs, volunteer work, research, leadership positions: both HS* and College
Do not list duties, employers want skills & results
Begin each bullet with action verb
Task, action, result
Quantify results!
Top Things to Avoid
Poor format
Inaccurate dates
Spelling and grammatical errors
Long sentences/paragraphs
Personal information not related to the job(e.g. Hobbies)
