Cell Organelle Investigation
Transcript of Cell Organelle Investigation
Frank is a fifty year old male, who arrived in the ER at 6:04 a.m. with severe indigestion. Decision Decision Our decision is that the organelle being targeted are the peroxisomes because they contain enzyme catalysts and oxidases which should be broken down. If Mary had perixosomes there wouldn't be high levels of fatty acids, which would have been metabolized. -High glucose levels The Case of Benjamin Botten: The Case of Mary Streaver: The Case of Frank Rentz: The Case of Olivia Kalie: Brief Description:
Benjamin is a twenty-three year old male, who arrived in the ER at 7:45 p.m. with complaints of a fever, and joint pain. Benjamin claimed he was not on any medication at the time. The blood tests revealed a high build up of polysaccharides and lipids and he is also suffering from acidosis, or decreased pH levels of the blood Blood Test Results Brief Description Olivia is a sixteen year old track star at a local school nearby. She arrived in the ER at 5:03 p.m. with complaints of extreme muscle weakness and loss of muscle coordination, particularly in her arms and legs! She told the attending physician that for the past few days, she had been pretty exhausted with little energy to do anything. Blood Test Results • Muscle Biopsy -Muscle fibers were ragged red-Contained mild accumulations of glycogen-Decreased activity for the enzyme cytochrome c oxidase Test Results
-no abnormalities with it-unable to digest his food Mary is a fifty-five year old female, who arrived in the ER at 4:35 p.m. with complaints of severe fever and pain. Test results of blood:
-High concentration of oxidative enzymes-High levels of fatty acids
-Nerve cells were not producing enough myelin Decision Our decision is that the organelle that is being targeted are the lysosomes because in the case the materials aren't being digest and their is a build up of carbohydrates and fats. If lysosomes were present there wouldn't be a build up. Decision Our decision is that the organelle targeted is the mitochondria. This is because the patient is an athlete, yet her glucose levels are high and she is exhausted. If the mitochondria was working properly she wouldn't have high glucose levels, and she wouldn't be tried.
