Jake W, Megan L, Claudia C, Louisa M Greek Mythology Zeus - King of Gods Hera - Queen of the Gods Poseidon - God of the Sea Hades - God of the Underworld Demeter - Goddess of Agriculture Hestia - Goddess of the Hearth Apollo - God of the Sun +The ruler of the Olympian gods
+His weapon is a lighting bolt, he throws the bolt at who displeases him
+He is married to Hera, but is famous for his affairs
+He punishes anyone who lies or breaks oaths
+He is a rain god and the cloud gatherer
+Married to Zeus (king of the gods) who also was her brother
+Goddess of marriage and childbirth
+She once joined a revolt against Zeus. He punished Hera by hanging her in the sky with gold chains and weeping her all night. Then the next morning he released her with the promise that she would never rebel again
+She never rebelled again but she had many arguments with Zeus. +Poseidon carried a weapon called a trident
+His trident could shake the earth and shatter any object
+At one point Poseidon desired Demeter
+Demeter had asked Poseidon to make the most beautiful animal the world has ever seen
+At first he had failed and created several animals until he created the first horse
+Besides Zeus, Poseidon is the most powerful god +Daughter of Cronus and Rhea
+Goddess of harvest, earth, fertility
+Shes the one that makes the crops grow
+Persephone, her daughter was abducted by Hades who wanted to make her wife. Demeter was very angry about this so she put a curse on the earth that made all the plants die. Zeus found out and fought for Persephone brought her home but because she ate there for awhile she would have to spend 4 months each year in the underworld +Brothers with Zeus and Poseidon
+After the overthrow with Cronus (their father), each of the brothers got a share of the world, and Hades got the Underworld
+He is a greedy God and was greatly concerned with increasing his subjects
+He rarely leaves the underworld
+His wife is Persephone, which he abducted
•She is Zeus' sister
•She is the Goddess of the Hearth, the symbol of the house around which a newborn child is carried before it is born into the family
•Each city-state had a public hearth special to Hestia. The fire was never allowed to go out
•She is the mildest, most upright and most charitable of the Olympians
+He is the son of Zeus and Leto and his twin sister is Artemis
+He is the God of the Sun, Music, Truth and Light
+Apollo is also a skilled Archer
+He also is the God of Medicine
+His most important daily task is to harness for horses to a chariot and drive the sun across the sky
+His tree is the Laurel
+His bird is the Crow
+His animal is the dolphin Athena - Goddess of Wisdom +Daughter of Zeus, but has no mother
+She invented many things, such as the trumpet, flute, bridle (which allows men to tame horses), and the chariot
+She is the Goddess of Wisdom, Reason and Purity
+She was Zeus' favorite child and was allowed to use his weapons, including his thunderbolts
+Her tree is the Olive Tree
+Her bird is the Owl
Ares - God of War +Ares is the son of Zeus and Hera
+He was not well liked by his parents
+He is considered murderous and blood-stained, but a coward
+Ares was one of the 12 Olympians
+His bird is the Vulture
+His animal is the dog
Artemis - Goddess of the Moon +She is the Goddess of Chastity, the Hunt, the Moon and the Natural Environment
+She is the daughter of Zeus and Leto and her twin brother is Apollo
+She is the huntsmen of the Gods and protector of the young.
+Her tree is the Cypress Tree
+All animals are sacred to her, especially the deer.
Hephaestus - God of Metal Working Aphrodite - Goddess of Love +Goddess of love, desire and beauty
+Married to Hephaestus god of iron but her heart belonged to Ares god of war with whom she had a secret affair
+Her symbols are a mirror and a shell
+She was the most attractive Goddess in the Mount Olympus but in stories she is described as a weak and frightful goddess.
Dionysus ~ God of Celebration +God of wine, vegetation, pleasure and festivity
+Lighthearted - always helping who even need him
+He was one of the few Olympian gods that didn't live in Mount Olympus because he was traveling around the world to find new secrets about wine
Hermes - The Messenger God +The son of Zeus
+He is the fastest of all the gods
+Hermes is considered a trickster, and outwitted other gods
+He was one of the Olympian gods
+Hermes was the second youngest god
Nike - Goddess of Victory +Daughter of giant Pallas and the river Styx
+She looked like a small figure carried in peoples hands, with wings and carried a palm branch and wreath or had the staff of victory
+She was both in battle and peaceful competition
+Closely identified with the goddess Athena
+Is the son of Zeus and Hera
+He is also the God of Fire and Forge
+Hephaestus is the blacksmith and armorer of the Gods
+He is kind and peace-loving
