Transcript of Will Smith
Was admitted to the "pre-engineering" program at MIT, but "had no intention of going to college" (Smith).
Smith began to MC for the duo DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince.
This included Smith, along with childhood friends, Jeffery Townes and Clarence Holmes.
The trio was known for performing funny and radio-friendly songs.
They were awarded the first Grammy ever given to the Rap category in 1988. Smith had trouble with money and had a run in with the IRS in the late 80s, becoming nearly bankrupt in 1990.
Lucky for Smith, NBC aired a pilot for a small show, called "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air".
This started his love for acting and formed his goal to "the biggest movie star in the world" (Smith). Will greatly contributes to many of his movie projects, from casting to being part of the production team.
His music allows Smith an alternate route for his creativity.
He writes his own lyrics and plays a large role in the recording of each of his albums.
Smith has always given his children the ability to try new things and has said,
"The way that we deal with our kids is, they are responsible for their lives. Our concept is, as young as possible, give them as much control over their lives as possible and the concept of punishment, our experience has been—it has a little too much of a negative quality. So when they do things—and you know, Jaden, he's done things—you can do anything you want as long as you can explain to me why that was the right thing to do for your life."
This belief in doing the right thing at the right time has helped Smith become the successful person he is. Smith is dedicated to the art he partakes in and will avidly participate in a project from its beginning to its end.
Not only dedicated to his work, but dedicated to those who play a major role in his life.
Will has stood by wife, Jada, through many ups and downs and the power couple serve as great parents when it comes to their children, Jaden and Willow.
Smith still keeps in touch with original members of DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, as well as original music producers. Will participates in numerous charities and does a large amount of volunteering.
Founded the "Will and Jada Smith Family Foundation" to benefit inner-city community development, youth educational projects and under-privileged children and their families.
Hosted the Nelson Mandela AIDS benefit concert in George, South Africa, as well as participating in extra volunteer hours in South Africa.
He is also inspirational to aspiring musicians and actors who have seen his work. Smith has always been extremely passionate about his work, both on the big screen and in the recording studio.
When Will takes on a role, he fully embodies the character and tries to become that character in every aspect of his life.
Not only is Smith passionate about his work, he is also passionate about his family and peers, as well as the strangers he meets through his charity and volunteer work. Will speaks Spanish fluently and is obsessed with the game of chess?! When asked which actor he would want to portray him in a biopic, President Barack Obama quickly said Will Smith (because of his ears!) Early Years His first major roles were in "Six Degrees of Separation" (1993) and "Bad Boys" (1995).
After becoming a box office sensation in "Independence Day" (1996), Smith was recruited to star in one of his most famous roles, Agent J in "Men in Black" (1998).
It was announced in 2011, that Smith returned to the studio in order to release his fifth album.
His most recent film is "After Earth" where he stars alongside his son, Jaden. Open-Mindedness Smith and his wife, Jada, allow their children great freedom, and are very open-minded when it comes to the endeavors of their children, peers, or themselves.
As an actor and musician, Smith is also open to new acting roles a music styles. And at age thirteen, Will was already at his adult height of 6'2''?! Bibliography http://factspage.blogspot.com/2009/09/10-interesting-facts-about-will-smith.html
