A Quick Overview...
Organ Transplantation?

Organs and tissues which can be transplanted : Kidneys, Liver, Heart, Lungs, Pancreas, Intestines, Corneas, Skin, Heart valves, Tendons, Bones, Blood vessels, Stomach, Bone marrow
How does it work?
From doctor to a transplant center
Evaluation of the patient
Testing of the patients physical/mental health as well as their social support system
Medical profile sent to national transplant waiting list

The Waiting Time ...

June 2013 Canadian patient Matin khan after years of enduring dialysis as she waited for kidney transplant paid 10,000 dollars buy kidney in Pakistan…

Organ Black Market
Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system . A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that:
clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections; and
obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.

So Let's Think about it...
Legalization of organ transplant = saving lives = good
Right?
But what about those who can't afford?
It's less risky + source of revenue for the less fortunate ones
TRUE CASES
April 2013, 5 are convicted in Kosovo in connection with elaborate organ trafficking network lured poor people to the country to sell their kidneys and other organs to wealthy transplant recipients from Israel, the United States, Canada and Germany…

Where Are A Lot of Donors In The World?
Recipient countries: the U.S, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, Israel, and Japan
Ultimately
DON'T YOU THINK...
Bibliography
YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE
To What Extent Would The Legalization of Organ Sale Be Ethically Correct?
UNLESS YOU TRANSPLANT
Illegal organ trade generates between $600 million and $1.2 billion in profits per year!

Donor countries Impoverished nations in South America, Africa, Asia, & Eastern Europe

“ Wealthy patients are paying up to £128,500 for a kidney to gangs, often in China, India and Pakistan, who harvest the organs from desperate people for as little as £3,200 (roughly $4,756 today)”

“The illegal trade in kidneys has risen to such a level that an estimated 10,000 black market operations involving purchased human organs now take place annually. In 2010, of the 106,879 known organ transplant operations, those performed with illegally harvested organs may have been as high as 10 %”

Such high prices on life...!
YES . NO
END STATE CYSTIC FIBROSIS CAN ONLY BE TREATED WITH A LUNG TRANSPLANT
The long waiting times on the transplant lists and the scarcity of available organs has lead to a phenomenon which is called:
The Organ Black Market
Average waiting time for organ transplants - in days
What is Ethics?

Language
&
Perception
without emotions our decisions would be made systematically, like machines.

we need to be able to have the flexibility of mind to understand special cases and special pleadings.
a way of knowing
an obstacle to knowing
our emotions can blind us and lead to incorrect decisions.

may lead to special pleading and double arguments.
a way of knowing
logically prioritize patients and lists.

an obstacle to knowing
strictly reasonable thinking can lead us to robotic decision making.

we would no longer have a flexibility of mind
Ethics is the philosophical study of the moral values of human conduct and of the rules and principles that ought to govern it.
as a way of knowing
we are told by many people what is right or wrong; what is ethical or not.
as an obstacle of knowledge
way of knowing
obstacle of knowing
our eyes and our perception may deceive us.

some may seem needy; however that is just an act!
Prices will fall and complication won't happen
Receive organ base on bank accounts!
Crime rates would fall!
language can never be fully trusted.

fallacies happen.

mistakes are made.

language can be manipulative and misleading
we will be able to see and understand the life situation of the others and be able to make decisions accordingly.
Crime in the name of the law....!!!!
major improvement in life quality.... and much sooner recoveries
Legalize.....!!!!
Don't make it legal.....!!!!!
this would not only not solve our problems, but it will also create an array of problems which might not be controllable ...
Sara Murnighan
An alternative way to obtain an organ for her would have meant a great deal of change in her childhood.....
THANK YOU
:)
What do you think...?
Do you think organ sale should become legal all around the world?

What if you were a judge, would you allow the transplantation of an illegally procured organ for a patient?

What if this patient was a member of your family or a loved one?
