Becoming A Police Officer:
Decide weather you can handle the job. Ask yourself is it for you?
Learn the job description. Make sure you can handle each situation to the best of your ability.
Being a Police officer is a lot of work, you need to make sure you can handle the pressure.
Requirements


Must be at least 21 years old.
Must be able to pass all written tests.
Must be in good shape
Must develop strong interpersonal skills.
Must have a High School Diploma to a College Degree.
Some departments require applicants to have one to two years of college work and Associates Degree.
12-14 weeks of Police training. It may vary depending where you are located.
Must be a legal citizen of The United States.
Job Outlook and Responsibilities
Patrol duties. (on foot, car, or bicycle.)
Responding to calls from citizens when on duty.
Conducting investigations.
Keeping the peace at public meetings, social events processions, disputes and strikes.
Diffusing violent situations.
Interviewing suspects, victims, and witnesses.
Conducting arrests when needed.
Preparing Crime Reports.
Completing Administrative Procedures.
Continuation of Job Outlooks and Responsibilities.
Attending Court, giving evidence and information they recorded.
Dealing with lost or found property.
Enforcing road traffic.
Attending road related incidents including collisions, check points, and traffic offenses.
Working Conditions
Salary
Depending on where you are located the Salary may vary. In Pennsylvania the Salary is $59,780 per year, $28.74 an hour.
Typical Work Day
A typical work day for a Police Officer is Full time 8 hour, 10 hour, or 12 hour shifts. Sometimes overtime depending on the situations. Most Police Officers are on call.
Work Environment
-Police work can be physically, mentally and emotionally hard.
-It is very dangerous!
-It is also very stressful.
-Police Officers have one of the highest rates of injuries and illnesses of all jobs.
-Working around the clocks shifts is extremely common in this line of work.
Time off! Vacation Time!
-1 month to 5 years, is 8 hours per month or 12.5 days per year.
- 5 Years, 1 month to 10 years, 10 hours per month or 15 days per year.
- 10 Years, 1 month to 15 years, 12 hours per month or 18 days per year.
-15 Years, 1 month and Over, 13 hours per month or 20 days per year.
Injuries!
Being a Police Officer can lead to many injuries.
-Getting Shot
-Getting Beat Up
-Getting run over by a car
- Getting hit by a car
-They can be targeted for arresting someone or putting them in jail.
Anything can happen on the job! It is a very scary job but it needs to be done!

-Increased levels of destructive stress hormones

No matter the work condition Rain, Sleet, Hail, Snow, or Ice, they still have to report for duty. Just because we get bad weather doesn't mean they don't go to work. They have to help people no matter what!
