Belgium originally was a part of the Roman province of Belgica, which derived its name from the ancient people of Gaul. The country was owned by many different people throughout its history. Julius Caesar ruled the lands from 60-57 B.C.E, the Franks c. 5th Century, Lotharingia in the 8th century, the duchies of Brabant and Luxembourg in the 12th century, the duchy of Burgundy in the 15th century (which was later inherited by Emperor Charles V, then inherited by his son Philippe II), and during the French Revolution was added as a part of France. It was like this until Belgium declared independence.
Where it is!
Belgium is situated in the west side of Europe, surrounded by the Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg and France, in the North, East, South and West respectively. It has an approximate surface area of 30,538km2 and a capital called

Brussels. Belgium is a relatively small country, with three major parts. Lower Belgium (in the North) is relatively a flat area, with the height above sea level at an average of 100 meters. Central Belgium is not that different, rising between 100-200 meters. But upper Belgium rises to above 200-500 meters. It also has a population of about eleven million.

Belgium is very famous for their chocolate. They produce over 220,000 tonnes every year!
Belgium is very famous for their beers as well. There are over 800 types made there!
They have the smallest density of McDonalds fast food outlets in the developed world.
