Transcript of Social Media?
The only social media I currently have is Snapchat and Kik. I just made a Snapchat recently about a few months a go, and I use Kik mainly for group chats, asking or helping someone with homework, or if I were to have a lengthy conversation with someone.
What is Snapchat?
Snapchat is a photo and video sharing app where the material is seen for only a few seconds and then “disappears." I do understand that whatever is sent does not actually completely disappear, and that Snapchat does have a data base where everything is stored. However, this does not concern me because the only people I talk to are people that I know, and I have never done anything inappropriate, and never will.
Do I Have Any Other Social Media?
In the past I have had an Instagram, however, I did delete it because I felt guilty for not telling you nor asking for permission. However, I would like to make one again, except this time I will only make one if you give me your full consent (which is why I made sure both of you are sitting in front of me.)
Pros vs. Cons
There are both pros and cons of social media. The
: addiction, waste of time, etc. If it is truly disrupting/bothering me, then all I do is delete the app and don't get it back until every task at hand is finished.
On the other hand,
: I am able to stay in contact with friends, I know what is going on, and it helps stay connected to society, and is also educational, which I will explain next.
Please Do Keep In Mind...
I am not the only one that is going to ask you for permission to have social media. As time goes, Arnav is also soon going to yearn for some sort of social media. We are kids of the 21st century, and in this century, being social and maintaining a status/creating an identity for ourselves is important. Social media is one way to help us grow and learn about everything that is going around us.
Why am I talking to you about this?
I believe it is about time that we have a discussion about this. The world is growing and so am I.

What is Instagram?
Instagram is a fun and quirky way to share life with friends through a series of pictures. Snap a photo with your mobile phone, then choose a filter to transform the image into a memory. Also, I love to take and edit pictures, so why not be able to share them? Instagram is a perfect way to stay connected to friends and share my photography at the same time. As for security purposes, I can always make my account private and can only be viewed by people that I give permission to follow me, which, of course will only be my friends and people that I know.By keeping my account private and avoiding third-party plugins and extras, I can make sure that my pictures stay off public search engines such as Google. You also may or not be concerned about various forms of bullying and abuse that can happen on social media, however I can easily report and ignore other users, as well as anonymously report violations of the Instagram guidelines and terms.
I Know You Are Going To Say...
I am aware that you are going to say that I should be only focused on grades and school especially since I will be going to the academy, which is why I have created this list...
1. Top Floor Apartment / Island
2. Getting good grades and studying
3. Extra curricular
4. Social Dynamics
The way I have organized this is by priority. I put what motivates me first, because that keeps me going. Getting good grades (#2) is going to help me achieve my goals (#1) which is why it comes second. Third is extracurricular because that is very important these days for college (which is only four years away), and last, social dynamics, because it is important to be social and form your identity.
The List That I Always Have In Mind...
All I have left to say is that this should not be a big issue, and age should not be a problem either because this is the right age that I should be able to have social media. I am not very young, nor am I that old where it would seem childish to have this.**** Thank you for giving me your undivided attention while I presented this and I hope you understand that this was not easy for me to talk about, or present to both of you- but it had to be done one day because I do not want to hide this from you.
Snapchat & Instagram Are Educational?
As for educational purposes,
On Instagram, many people do post about different disasters or tragedies that have happened, and other news, and it never hurts to know what's going on. Snapchat has a "Discover" section. Snapchat Discover is a new way to explore Stories from different editorial teams. It’s the result of collaboration with world-class leaders in media to build a storytelling format that puts the narrative first. Every edition is refreshed after 24 hours - because what’s news today is history tomorrow.
