This method paid special attention on social context. NATURAL APPROACH "It is based on an empirically grounded theory of second language acquisition, which has been supported by a large number of scientific studies in a wide variety of language acquisition and learning contexts COMPETENCY BASED APPROACH It focuses on acquiring life skills. TRADITIONAL LANGUAGE METHOD GRAMMAR TRANSLATION METHOD (GTM) This method is focused on reading and writing with little attention on speaking and listening.
Grammar is taught deductively, through of the presentation and study of the rules. Also the vocabulary is memorized.
Memorization is considered a value teaching tool in this method.
The role of the teacher is traditionally authoritarian DIRECT METHOD This method insists on thinking and communicating directly in the target language and does not allow translation.
Classes often start with a reading of special text in which introduces the lesson`s vocabulary and grammatical structures.
Grammmar is taught inductively. The Direct Method teacher uses mime, demostration, realia to help students understand grammar and vocabu
lary. This method is taught in the natural acquisition. It is based on behaviorist theory. Audiolingual classes begin with a dialogue then they have to memorize it such as listen and repeat.
Dialogues are the basic form of instructional materials in the Audiolingual method. The dialogue serves three functions:
a) illustrates the target structure
b) illustrates the situation the structure may be used; and c) provides cultural information for language use wherever possible. AUDIOLINGUAL METHOD (ALM) The origin of this method came from the "Army Method" of American wartime language programs in WWII. The new technology of the language laboratory and the generous financial support for language research and training for military purposes in the U.S.A. (The National Defense Education Act in 1957) were factors contributing to the development of audio-lingual method. COMMUNICATIVE LANGUAGE TEACHING COMMUNICATIVE APPROACH Learners usually work in groups in where they can interact between speakers and listeners. The learners can practice language in real situation through authentic material situation such as: newspaper and recordings. This approach will challenge your creativy in which students can demostrate their competency in the four skills. This method is called "trace theory " of memory in psychology, which holds that the more often or the more intensively a memory connection is traced, the stronger the memory association will be and the more likely it will be recalled. A TPR course aims to produce learners who are capable of an uninhibited communication that is intelligible to a native speaker. In other words the learners acquire the language through an unconscious process. The teacher is encouraged to be well prepared and well organized so that the lesson flows smoothly and predictably. The TPR has enjoyed some popularity because of its support by those who emphasize the role of comprehension in second language acquisition. The students will understand the speaker of the target language and will be able to convey their requests and ideas. The activities in the classroom is: teacher talk focuses on objects in the classroom and on the content of pictures to minimize stress, learners are not required to say anything until they feel ready. The Natural Approach teacher has a particular responsibility to communicate clearly and compellingly to students the assumptions, organization, and expectations of the method, This method is based on theories of adults learning that what they are studying will improve their lives. It has been developed and applied in the United States to help immigrats and refugees learn English and the life skills at the same time. Language skills, grammar and vocabulary are sequenced according to the learner's needs. Pair work and group work are used to generate communication in activities such as problem solving and information gap activities. THE SILENT WAY COMMUNITY LANGUAGE LEARNING SUGGESTOPEDIA INNOVATIVE LANGUAGE TEACHING This method learners are actively responsible for their own learning The learning is more effectively if learners discovers the rules for themselves Mistakes are considered part of the process of discovering the rules and the teacher should not interfere in this process. The silent way is designed to be used with small groups and the teacher's role is to make sure that the group takes an active part in the classroom. THE AIM IS TO INVOLVE THE LEARNER'S WHOLE PERSONALITY The teacher is the counselor who gives assistance and support to the learners.
Theacher's roles is to understand the learner's fear and vulnerabilities. The focuse is initially on listening and speaking. The teacher translate and the learners repeat the teacher's translation. The CLL advocates that that the teacher should reduce the stress and fear of the learners by provinding lively activities which learning makes fun This process is designed to promote a relaxed frame of mind and to convert learners into possitive. LEXICAL APPROACH PPP APROACH This is a simple and effective approach for elementary learners, and useful structure for teachers to follow. The PPP stands for presentation, practice, production, and is a good way of structuring your lesson. It teaches basic skills, and ensures that all bases are covered.
