Rainbows By:Ashley A rainbow is an optical phenomenon that is caused by reflection of light in water droplets in the Earth's atmosphere, resulting in a spectrum of light appearing in the sky. It takes the form of a multicolored arc also known as a bow, hence the name rainbow. The rainbow effect is also commonly seen near waterfalls or fountains. They can also be created through mist, spray and dew. It may be hard to interpret through the naked eye but some sources have stated that altogether there are about 100 color hues in the rainbow, but most people only see the 7 main colors; red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and purple (violet). Pink is not usually a visible
color in the rainbow but it may
be included in the hues of the
rainbow. Double Rainbow Secondary rainbows are caused by a double reflection of sunlight inside the raindrops, because of this, the second rainbow's colors are switched so blue or violet are on the outside and red is on the inside. Twinned Rainbow A twinned rainbow is a rare event where two rainbow arcs start from a single base. Sometimes a double rainbow may occur at the same time as a twinned rainbow.
