S - Specific
Goals must be specific.

Ask, "What exactly will I do?" "How exactly will I do it?"

Ex. "I will achieve gold status in the Leaders go Places program by not getting think times or detentions, being respectful, being a leader, completing community service, and maintaining As and Bs.
M - Measurable
Goals must be measurable.
Able to be measured in some way.

Is there a way I can track this goal?

Can I make a set of criteria?

How will I know I am achieving this goal?
Success! Stay Positive!
Focus on your accomplishments
R - Relevant
What does this mean to me? Why is this important?
Why set goals, anyway?
Goals help us strive to achieve!
for example...
If I get at least a 'B' on the next two quizzes, I should be able to end the semester with a B+
If I am able to save $7.50 each week, I am on track to having the $100 I need by Christmas.
If I go three weeks without any think times, I know I am reaching my goal of staying focused in class.
Guide and direct behavior
Provide challenges and standards
Reflect what we find important
Increase self-confidence!

Do you want to have more friends?
Do you want your peers to view you in a certain way?
Do you want to feel comfortable in new groups
Do you want to eat healthier?

Lose weight?

Have strong bones?
Improve appearance/hygiene?
Is there something you want to buy?

Some reason to save money? College? Holidays? New shoes?
Am I "biting off more than I can chew?"
Can I do this given the time frame?
