IRAN/IRAQ War!! Lasted from 1980-1988 Both countries suffered millions of
casualties and billions of dollars of damage One of the deadliest wars since WW2!! Intense collateral damage to both of their economies! The war involved two major oil producers
and the region where more than half the world's
reserves are located, makingit one of the most strategically important conflicts of modern times. The war was mainly caused by border disputes between
Arabs and Persians. There was also conflict
between Iraq's Sunni and
Iran's Shia Muslim branches
There was a difference between
Iraq and Iran's political body. Iraq was socialist and pro-soviet. Iran was anti-socialist and pro-western After the revolution, Iran was very weak
giving Iraq the chance to invade Iran in September
of 1980. The outcome The war caused the crude oil prices to more than double from $14 in 1978 to $35 in 1981
