The average cost of a school uniform is approximately $25 (Ridgedale Times, 13). A student said, “I wear the same clothes several times a week because they are the only ‘cool’ clothes I have” (2009). Dr. Chace Anderson said, “We are always striving to find new ways to improve performance” (3). Teachers in the district support school uniforms (Teachers, 13). Another student said,“I get distracted by all of the pretty girls in my class” (Patch, 21). Argument against your Position: Proving the argument is weak: A survey of New York City schools that required uniforms showed that 18% of the students actually showed a decline in academic performance (Jones, 35). 35% showed a reduction in behavior related issues (Jones, 56). Supporting Details Topic Sentences Thesis Statement Follow-Up He is pushing students and staff to continue to grow and thinks school uniforms are the way to improve classroom behavior and performance. A family can purchase almost a week’s worth of clothing for the cost of one outfit at one of the high-end stores, which puts less stress on families. Students want to fit in and some resort to extreme measures in order to achieve this. These findings indicate that the students clothing was a contributing factor for behavior referrals.
