Transcript of The kingdoms of life grade 6

the kingdoms of life
vocabulary: (copybook)
kingdom: largest groups used to classify living things .
organisms:living things.
phyla :all members of a phyllum share at least one important structure or character .
Book page A7:
read pair & share
make a table (1)takes in food, (2)makes its own food, (3)move,(4) doesn't move)
Animal Kingdom (p:A10)
multicelled
eat and digest food
move
learning strategies :
mutual respect
attentive listening
appreciation statements
right to pass
welcome :)
Unit1:
classifying living things:
the plant kingdom:
the kingdom of life
classifying plants
the animal kingdom:
vertebrates
invertebrates
reproduction and growth
Activity1 :
get all your pencils ,pens ,all your stuff from your pencil case .
divide them into groups
divide them into smaller groups
according to what did you classify them?
book p:A8-A9
conclusion : Scientist philosopher Aristotle classified living organisms according to their similarities into smaller groups plants and animals according to their structure and function
but after the invention of microscope , Swedish scientist called Carolus linnaeus classified them into smaller groups
H.W. worksheets p.5
animalia : multicelled organism take in food.
chordata :back bone.
mammlia : nourish their young with milk .
carnivora: sharp teeth claws for eating meat .
canidae: long limps ,claws, eyes with rounded pupil .
canis: dogs ,wolves.
H.W.: work-sheets page 7.
mention the animals that you have seen during your vacation ,classify them into groups
assessment :make a survey for the 5 kingdoms (2 characteristics ,one example, one use)
King
phillip
came
over
from
Germany
So
what are the differences between animals & plants?
animals
plants
move
can't make their own food
can make their own food
can't move
But they both:
need oxygen
multicellular
To which kingdom do you think mushroom and algae belong to ?
Activity 2:
(1)
(2)
(3)
(4)
paramecuim
mushroom
cloudspores
bread molds
bacteria
venus's flytrap
hamsters
gold fish
hermit
gearnuim
euglena
mosses
elodea
paramecuim
hamsters
bacteria
gold fish
hermit
mushrooms
bread mold
mosses
elodea
venus's flytrap
geranuim
Its divided into smaller groups:
SPONGES
SPONGE GLASSES
Sea Star
star fish
amphibians
frog
arthropodes
spider
mammals:
Gorilla
The plant kingdom
The fungus kingdom
The protist kingdom
Have green leaves &stems
anchored (stable)
multicelled organism
use sunlight to make own food and produce oxygen
Have roots to absorb water.
H.W.:
read A12,A13.
Then name seedless plants ,what are the main kind of seeded plants, and describe the difference in a paragraph.
blue structure on bread.
mold :penicilluim nonatum discovered by Alexander Fleming which kills bacteria.
important food crops except wild mushrooms are poisonous
kingdom that include microbes:very small living things only seen under microscope
mostly multicelled but some are one celled .
can't make their own food ,but they absorb and digest it.
one celled and multicelled
plant like protists make their own food
animal like protists take in food from their surroundings.
Book p:A15
silent reading
How is euglena like a plant ?
why doesn't euglena fit into the plant kingdom?
How is an amoeba like an animal?
why doesn't amoeba fit into animal kingdom?
there are two kingdoms of bacteria:
TRUE Bacteria
Eubacteria
Archaebabteria
Ancient
causes disease
decay matter in soil
bacteria survive in areas with no oxygen .
characteristics of bacteria:
one celled
most of them don't make their own food but break down or decompose other living things
some bacteria (cyanobacteria ) make their own food.
shapes:
sphere shaped
rod shaped
clumped together like a bunch of grapes.
have whiplike structure that moves in tumbling motions.
Activity 3:
on colored sketch
make a table:
animals
fungi
plants
protists
bacteria
Do you think only bacteria cause disease ? also viruses cause disease.
A substance called DNA is found in the cells of all living cells , the more closely related organisms are , the more similar the DNA is.
So we have different kinds of kingdoms :
(Biodiversity)
H.W.
list main characteristics used to classify animals .
write a paragraph about how do you think these kingdoms interact (include diagram)
how are the members of plant and fungus kingdom are alike and different ?
classify how might you break apart any of the kingdoms into smaller groups (vertebrates &invertebrates)
how do bacterial kingdoms differ from the other kingdoms?
Activity 4:
each pair
Book p: A6
On colored sketch do another classification than the old one.
thanks
lab 1:
go to the lab put some water on a piece of bread
enclose the bread into a plastic bag and close it
do the experiment : how to prove that yeast are living organism through producing carbon dioxide bubbles a sign of respiration
h.w.:
worksheets p7
the animal kingdom
spiral shaped
most deadly bacteria
