Comma Splice and
Fused Sentence Comma Splice Fused Sentences Strategies to fixing
a Comma Splice/
Fused Sentence Strategy #1 Strategy #2 Strategy #3 Because comma splices and fused sentences contain two independent clauses, the first strategy is to add a period. Add a comma, and a coordinating conjunction to join the two independent clauses. Seven Commonly used junctions are;for, and , nor, but , or, yet and so. Use a semi-colon because it is strong enough to join two main clauses, while a comma is not. Example 2: You can only be young once you can be immature for a life time. Quick Note! Both comma splices and fused sentences are run-on sentences. Example 1: I got up pretty late this morning I did not have time to eat. Definition Two main clauses connected with no punctuation. Definition The incorrect joining of two independent clauses through the use of a comma. Example 2: Ryan is very handsome, he has a great personality. Example 1: Rain fell through the night, by the morning every road was flooded. Strategy #4 Use a subordinate conjunction with the right punctuation with it. Quiz Time! I went to shave my back all the while I did not have any shaving cream.
