Charles Darwin

Evolution

Born on Feburary 12, 1809-April 19, 1882, in Mount Shrewsbury, United Kingdom
On December 27, 1831 the voyage of Darwin's life started.
He sailed around the world on the HMS Beagle, and studied life around the world
He explored every continent except North America.
He was a religious person, and went to church every week.
What did Charles Darwin achieve?

Theory of Natural Selection
Theory of Evolution
"The Origin of Species"
"The Descent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex"
"The Expression of Emotions In Man and Animals"
Natural Selection

From natural selection we can now explain a way that animals change from species to species.
But how do we explain things that happen that are completely different.
Evolution by natural selection is how we explain how animals evolved from other animals.
Evolution is proved by the fossil record, we can see the way fossils slowly altered to their surroundings.
What do we get out of this?
Natural Selection is a important concept to understand in order to see bigger ideas.

How did Charles Darwin figure this out?
What can the theory of Evolution do for us?
It explains how humans evolved into what we are today, it can explain how any animal got to where it is today.
The Origin of Species
The Origin of Species was the book that Darwin worked on after
his long vayage.
The book was published in 1959.
It expresses the theory of natural selection and evolution.
When Darwin published this to the world, most of the world blocked out his ideas, but still many saw his logic, and started to see that maybe he was right.
The Descent of Man and
Selection in Relation to Sex

Darwins' second book.
Darwin describes his thoughts on how man came to be.
He talks about how in evolutions stand point the roles each sex has in life.
The Origin of Life was not intended to be about Humans, but nevertheless thats what many people made the connection. This book went into greater detail about how us humans came.
Humans evolved from apes.
Darwin's Books
These are three of Darwin's books. The first one he wanted it to describe natural selection and evolution. The second book's ideas were on how mankind came to be, and selection in realation to sex. His last book was about emotions, and what they do.
The Expression of Emotions In Man and Animals
Darwin's third book
It was about philisophical point of view.
It was about the way emotions worked in man and animals.
Natural Selection is the root of Evolution

Natural Selection is "Survival of the Fittest"
1809-1882
Darwin's Tortoises
More evidence of natural selection
Different sizes, shapes, and colors for the shells
DIfferent size necks for different diets.
Darwin's Home
Darwin's
Voyage
Galapagos Islands
Towards the end darwin's journey around the world, he stopped here. This place helped him find the theory of evolution.
