Abortion Pro-Life What is it? Abortion is a surgical or medical procedure that
terminates a pregnancy, meaning terminating
the child

There are two stances to this issue, pro-life
(against abortion, euthanasia and all
contraceptive use), and pro-choice (for abortion
and a woman’s right to choose)

There are many methods to perform abortion Dilation and Curettage After general anesthetic is given the cervix is

A curette is inserted and used to empty the
inside of the uterus

Used most often at 8 week pregnant Suction Aspiration The woman is given general anesthetic and
cervix is dilated

Tube with suction power is inserted to remove
the fetus

Often used up until 12 weeks of pregnancy Dilation and Evacuation The woman is given general anesthetic and the
cervix is dilated

Forceps are used to dismember the fetus’ body
and remove

Most often this process is used at 18 weeks of
Pregnancy when the fetus is too big to be taken out throuh suction aspiration Saline Injection A long needle injects a saline solution into the

The fetus is given the solution

The mother is put into forced labour and gives
birth to the fetus

Sometimes the fetus is born alive and in some
rare case it grows up and is placed in an
adoption agency Pro-Choice Hysterotomy The fetus and the placenta are removed If no chemicals are used to fetus is often alive The umbilical cord is clamped. Hysterectomy The uterus is removed, process is usually designated for women who have serious complications with pregnancy Misoprostol A pill orally taken that forces the cervix to soften and contract uterus in order to expel the fetus
Resulting in a early menstrual cycle Why is it a social Issue? This become an issue when people argue that a fetus has the same right to life as a fully grown human being
The issue then arises from the moment when one becomes a person in the eyes of the law (In canadian law it is not protected until it has been fully birthed)
If a fetus is not a person it does not have a right to be protected
This stems into two different arguments, one that advocates abortion (pro choice) and one that rejects abortion (pro life) The pro life argument fights for the full protection under the law of embryos and fetuses (especially opposing induced abortions)
This argument also includes the opposition to all use of contraceptive Believes in live starts at the fertilization until natural death
Any action that destroys the embryo or fetuses is killing a person Pro Life Video Pro Choice Video Pro Life? What is it? Are you prolife or prochoice? Or are you somewhere in the middle?

When do you believe a fetus becomes a Human Being? Fetal Development 4 weeks old Fetus is developing the structures that will eventually form his face and neck
The heart and blood vessels continue to develop. And the lungs, stomach, and liver start to develop 8 weeks Now just over a half inch in size, eyelids and ears are being formed
Tip of nose is visible and all limbs are visibly forming 16 weeks 4.3 to 4.6 inches and weighs about 3.5 ounces
The baby's eyes can blink and the heart and blood vessels are fully formed
fingers and toes have prints at this point 12 weeks Fetus measures about 2 inches and begins to make it's own movement (ie. kicking)
Sex organs begin to form here 20 weeks Baby weighs about 10 ounces and is a little more than 6 inches long
Baby can suck a thumb, yawn, stretch, and make faces 24 weeks Ultrasound is done at 24 weeks and it is indefinitely determined the sex of the baby
Baby weighs about 1.4 pounds now and responds to sounds by moving or increasing his pulse 28 weeks baby weighs about 2 pounds, 6 ounces, and changes position often 32 weeks baby weighs almost 4 pounds and is moving around often
Baby will gain up to half of birth weight between now and birth 36 weeks On average, a baby at this stage is about 18.5 inches and weighs close to 6 pounds
Brain and lungs are almost fully developed and head is situated down near the pelvis Campaign Life Coalition:
