Alternate Book Cover
I chose a cello and a heart monitor line for an alternate cover. The Cello and music were a huge part in the book, since Mia (the main character) plays this instrument throughout the book. Music also plays a part in the accident, playing as the accident happens The heart line is placed to look like it is "playing" the cello, since many flashbacks in the hospital involve Mia playing.
I decided to make a trailer for if i stay. I used the song Say Something by A Great Big World. I used this song because it is emotional and about losing someone. Mia is in a coma, and her family want her to wake up. This song I believe fits perfectly for the trailer, because it catches the emotion the reader feels while reading farther and farther into the book.
Plan a Party:
Mia Naps the Cello Solo
-Music themed because she got the solo at her music camp.
-The decorations will be filled with music notes and different instruments, but the focus will be on the Cello, being the instrument Mia plays
-Since this is a summer camp solo, there will be a BBQ, with hot dogs and hamburgers.
-The party will be held after she performs her solo, and all her friends (from camp or not) are invited
-Since her favourite genre of music is Classical, this will be playing at the party. Though, there will be a mixture for other guests to enjoy (like Rock, since her boyfriend and family like Rock)

I really enjoyed the novel. I thought the story was very well thought out and realistic. The relationships between the characters were relatable and likable. Mia's character was different but readers could relate to being a teenager and trying to struggle through loss. Adam's character is the opposite of Mia, yet the reader can also put their selves in his shoes while coping with Mia, his girlfriend, being in a coma and almost dying. I liked that the story was told in Mia's point of view because readers got to learn more about the main character and experience her flashbacks and emotions.
Favourite Passage
"Teddy is never going to graduate from T-ball to baseball. He's never going to grow a mustache. Never going to get into a fistfight or shoot a deer or kiss a girl or have sex or fall in love or get married or father his own curly-haired child. I'm only ten years older than him, but it's like I've already had so much more life. It is unfair. If one of us should have been left behind, if one of us should be given the opportunity for more life, it should be him. (160-161)

if i stay
This is my favourite passage because I feel a connection with Mia. Both her and I have a younger sibling. While reading this passage, I imagined myself in her shoes and started to cry. If anything were to happen to my sister, I would feel the same as Mia. I would want my sibling to live, because they would have more in life to live for. The younger sibling can keep going. Siblings would give up anything for each other. This passage also made me think of Frozen. Though Anna doesn't die, Elsa still wanted to keep her safe and risked everything, even living her life, just to keep Anna safe. Mia would have done the same for Teddy.
Connection to "Say Something"
Say something, I'm giving up on you
I'll be the one, if you want me to
Anywhere I would've followed you
Say something, I'm giving up on you

And I am feeling so small
It was over my head
I know nothing at all

And I will stumble and fall
I'm still learning to love
Just starting to crawl

Say something, I'm giving up on you
I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you
Anywhere I would've followed you
Say something, I'm giving up on you

And I will swallow my pride
You're the one that I love
And I'm saying goodbye

Say something, I'm giving up on you
And I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you
And anywhere I would've followed you (Oh-oh-oh-oh)
Say something, I'm giving up on you

Say something, I'm giving up on you
Say something...

This song really connects to Adam's character. Adam is the one who really influenced Mia to wake up.

"Say something...I'm sorry that I couldn't get to you"

Adam love's Mia a lot. He at one point blamed himself for what happened, almost like saying "I'm sorry I couldn't get to you"

The book is mainly set in the hospital while Mia is in a coma. The lyrics "say something" really connect to Adam because out of everyone, he seems to be the one who wants her to wake up the most.

I also included a Cello cover. The Cello is an important part of Mia's life, so this cover is fitting.

The song is an emotional song, so this connects to the emotional aspect of the novel.
