The life of Johnathan Chapman Johnny Appleseed Johnny Appleseed died at the age of seventy. His devotion to animals and nature, and his remarkably simple existence made him a legend in his time. He remains a legendary figure in American history today. Who was Johnny Appleseed? How was he given the name "Johnny Appleseed" ? His dream was to plant apple trees everywhere so that people would not go hungry. He planted apple orchards in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Pennsylvania and Ohio. Johnny Appleseed was a good friend to the native tribes and to the early settlers of America. He didn't think it was right to hurt animals (even insects) for any reason at all. He didn't eat meat or wear leather. He didn't even use animals to travel or carry his apple trees. Is is said that he walked barefoot everywhere he went. He believed in a simple life. He wore clothes that were old and torn. He didn't own a house. The only property he owned were his apple orchards, and he used the trees only to trade for materials (such as clothing and food) that would make it possible for him to continue his travels. John Chapman was born on September 26, 1774 in Massachusetts http://youtu.be/NHLOLO5iJiI The End.
