Transcript of Green Solutions
Energy The past century has seen the process of Global Warming occurring. This is due to the enhanced greenhouse effect. The enhanced greenhouse effect is when certain influences such as the industrial revolution where fossil fuels increase the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, therefore warming the Earth significantly more. By Ben Tickell, Tony Diep and Wian Oberholzer This then creates many problems such as polar ice caps melting, more intense & commonly occurring natural disasters, loss of biodiversity, extinction of animals and sea level rise- just to name a few.
Because of this, scientists have come up with some Green Solutions, these solutions are an alternative to the hazardous fossil fuel burning emissions. Equipment usually consists only of a heat pump connected to two wells: an intake and an output well. The water from the intake well is pumped through the heat exchanger, which extracts the thermal energy (cooling or heating) and then returns the water to the output well. The thermal energy is then delivered into individual rooms via standard air ducts and/or a radiant heat floor. It is estimated that the world's 16,000 commercial air jet aircrafts produce over 600 million tons of carbon dioxide in a year. That is a lot of greenhouse gases, however, a new era in jet aircraft has arisen. Hydrogen is used as fuel. The hydrogen is converted into electrical energy in a direct electrochemical reaction with oxygen while the plane is flying in the air, without any combustion occurring and only producing water. Over the past few years, there has been a huge expansion in the use of residential and commercial solar panels. They convert the heat from the Sun's radiation in to electricity (electric process) or heat (thermal process).
Its strengths are:
•It can be used for heating, water and cooking
•It is cheap Short Term + Long Term With the use of wind turbines, the kinetic energy from the wind can be converted into electricity.
Wind farms are becoming more and more popular over the years as there are many advantages to it:
•It is clean
•Renewable source of energy
•Is more affordable in comparison with some other solutions The best short term options for Australia are actually the same ones for the long term. Because, if we start using them now, they greatly reduce the carbon footprint and ultimately minimize or even abolish Global Warming in the future. These options are the ones mentioned in this presentation as well as a few others such as Bio Fuels, Hydroelectric gravity dams and Biomass (plant material). References Thankyou
