Transcript of Sinking of the Lusitania

The Sinking of the Lusitania Quinton & Kelton The Lusitania was designed so that she might be readily be converted to an auxilary cruiser in times of war as part of an agreement with the british government. The ship was set to sail from New York to Liverpool in 1915 Even tho the Germans said that any ship that came into the European War zone was a potential target the ship sailed anyway. The German U-Boat shot a single torpedo at the sip and sunk it. Even though the U-Boat only shot one torpedo, when it hit the ship it caused two explosions. The Germans said that the second explosion was caused by gunpowder that was on the ship where the torpedo hit. After it was hit it only took eighteen seconds to sink The Lusitania was carrying way more then what it was supposed to be Not only was the ship carrying passengers, but it was also carrying 4,200 boxes of small arms ammunition That was the reason it was shot down Both the Us and the UK investigated as to why the Germans sunk the ship Arguements over whether the ship was a legitimate military taret raged back and forth throughout the war as both sides made misleading claims about the ship The Germans said they had legitimate reasons why they shot the torpedeo at the Lusitania The ship was carrying a large amount of ammo which was going to be delivered to the French and that made the ship war contraband The Germans said they would not fire on any neutral ships that passed through the war zone. The German U-Boat sank the Lusitania in 1915, but it took the United States almost three years after the incident to join WWI THE END
