Transcript of How to account and manage Greenhouse Gases Emitions from a transnational company?

Is it to be accountable to your shareholders, clients or legal compliance? Is it a market strategy, to be ahead of your competition? what is your motivation? Why do you want to account your GHG emissions? It is important to define the purpose of the project; it will help to establish deadlines, goals and priorities on this task.
Keep it in mind. Is it for corporate environmental commitment? There are some interesting Standards to work with. Corporate GHG inventories

GHG Protocol – ”Corporate accounting and reporting standard”
ISO 14064-1
Project GHG inventories – emission reductions

The Gold Standard
The Voluntary Carbon Standard
The GHG protocol – ”Project accounting”
ISO 14064-2
Step 2: Defining boundaries Step 3: Accounting Emissions Step 4: Bringing Together Step 5: Autonomy Step 5: One step at a time There are two ways to define your Organizational Boundaries: Financial control refers to an entity's ability to direct the financial policies of all elements of that entity with a view to gain economic benefit from its activities over a period of many years. This approach should ensure that all sources, including those controlled by subsidiaries, that are wholly or largely owned by the entity are covered by its reports. Operational control is an alternative approach for determining an entity's boundaries and refers to an entity's ability to direct the operational policies of all elements of that entity. For example, when an entity controls the day-to-day operations of a facility or source, but does not own the facility or source, operational control exists. Choosing one of them will depend of your organization structure. You must also respect National borders in your reports due the different emition factors from different countries. When the inventories of the national operations are ready, it is time to summarize the global data in a single report. Once identified emitions sources, and properly accounted all emitions volumes, we will feed a GHG Accounting Software to facilitate the process for following years. Then your company will be able to account its emissions by its own, in real time. Nice! To guarantee relevance, integrality, consistency, transparency and exactitude required from GHG Reports, we must respect this pace. Maybe we will find no data to carry on; and sometimes we have to create methodologies to collect information in order to get things properly done. The identification of emition sources and GHG gases in your operations is not always an easy task, but the most frequent sources are:

Fuel combustion (mobile and stationary)
Air conditioning and refrigeration
Physical and chemical process
Land use, farming, cattle raising and foresting.
You will count with an experienced team to help to perform this project. Product life-cycle GHG inventories
ISO 14040 and 14044
PAS 2050
GHG Protocol – ”Product life cycle accounting and reporting”
ISO 14067 – “Carbon footprint of products”
We strongly recommend the usage of GHG Protocol Corporate Standard. Why?

The Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol) is the most widely used international accounting tool for government and business leaders to understand, quantify, and manage greenhouse gas emissions.
