Early Years Niall Horan a Biography Niall James Horan was born in Mullingar, Westmeath county, Ireland on September 13th 1993. His parents are Mother Maura Gallagher and Father Bobby Horan. He also has an older brother named Greg. Their parents divorced when Niall was 5. He and Greg lived between each of their parents homes for a few years before finally deciding to live with their Father in Mullingar. Niall was a student at Colaiste Mhuire which is a boys Christian Brothers school. He was in the school choir performing seasonally around Christmas. He has also been playing guitar since he was 11. Prior to performing on he X Factor Niall performed around his homeland including as a support act for Lloyd Daniels in Dublin. Niall currently has a stepfather who is from England. Niall is naturally a brunette but has died his hair blond since the age of 12. He also favored The Eagles, Bon Jovi and The Script. The X Factor 2010 Niall auditioned for the seventh series of the British televised singing competition the X Factor in 2010. He failed to progress to the Boys category at the judges houses. After a suggestion from judge Nicole Scherzinger, Niall was put into a group with four other boys. They were Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Zayn Malik. They got 2 weeks together to get to know each other and to practice. That's when they came up with the name One Direction (1D). The song they sang at the judges houses was the acoustic version of Torn. In the live shows within 4 weeks they were Simon Cowell's last act in the competition. The group gained popularity very fast in the UK and finished in 3rd. Immediately after the final their song Forever Young which would have been released if they would have won was leaked onto the internet. Shortly after ward's it was confirmed that the group had been signed be Cowell to a $2 million Syco Records record contract. One Direction 2012 What Makes You Beautiful was released in the US in February 2012, where it debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 28, becoming the highest debut for a British act since 1998. It peaked at number 4 and has sold over 3 million units in the US. Upon their arrival to the US in February 2012, they embarked on a radio promotion spree as well as their first North American concert tour as an opening act for Big Time Rush. They made their first television appearance in the US on The Today Show on March 12th. The groups first studio album Up All Night was released globally in early 2012. It became the UK's fastest selling debut album of 2011 and topped the charts in 16 countries. The album bowed atop the US Billboard 200 chart making 1D the first British group in US chart history to enter at number 1 with their debut album. As a result they were indicated in the Guinness World Records. Up All Night also became the first album by a boy band to sell 500,000 digital copies in the US and as of August 2012 had sold over 3 million copies worldwide. One Direction 2011 One Direction 2012 continued 1D attended the 2012 Brit awards at which What Makes You Beautiful won the BRIT Award for Best British single. In April an American band who went by the same name filed a trademark infringement lawsuit. According to the lawsuit the US band had been using the name since 2009, recorded two albums and filed an application to register the trademark name in the US in February 2011. The US band said they were entitled to three times the profits made by the UK band as well as compensatory damages in excess of $1million. The BBC reported in September 2012 that the UK group won the legal dispute over the right to keep using their band name; the US changed their name to Uncharted Shores. In December 2011 1D embarked on their first headlining UK concert tour, the Up All Night Tour. In early 2012, they announced Australian and North American legs on the concert tour, with dates from April to July. The tour had resulted in 62 shows in total. A recording of a concert from the tour Up All Night: The Live Tour , was released in May. In addition to the DVD topping the charts in 25 countries, as of August its global sales had exceeded 1 million copies. One Directions first licensed American book Dare to Dream: Life as One Direction was published in the US on May 22nd. It topped The New York Times Best Seller List. In August the groups record sales exceeded 8 million singles, 3 million albums and 1 million DVD's. They also performed What Makes You Beautiful at the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony. 1D was the biggest winner of the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards winning 3 nominations on September 6th including Best New Artist. Recording for their debut album began in January 2011, as they flew to Los Angeles to work with producer RedOne. A One Direction licenced book, One Direction: Forever Young (Our official X Factor Story) was publised by HarperCollins in Febuary 2011, Topping The Sunday Times Best Seller list. The same month, One Direction and other contestants from the series participated in the X Factor Live Tour. The tour saw the group performing for 500,000 people throughout the UK. After the tour concluded in April 2011, One Direction continued working on their debut album. Recording took place in Stockholm, London and Los Angelos. They also worked with producers Carl Falk, Savan Kotecha, Steve Mac, and Rami Yacoub. Released in September 2011, their debut single What Makes You Beautiful bowed at number 1 on the UK Singles Chart after becoming the most pre-ordered Sony Music Entertainment single in history. Singles Gotta Be You and One Thing both peaked within the UK Singles Chart top ten. In November 2011 they signed a record deal with Columbia Records in North America. Wrapping up 2012 1D's 2nd studio album, Take Me Home, was released in November. In May they began recording the album in Stockham, Sweden. The lead single Live While Were Young released in September, peaked inside the top ten in almost every country it charted and recorded the highest one week opening sales figure for a song by a non-US artist in the US. The album and its second single Little Things both debuting simultaneously at number 1 in the UK. 1D became the youngest act in British chart history to achieve the feat. Take Me Home sold 540,000 copies in its first week in the US and topped the charts in 34 countries. Up All Night became the third best selling album and Take Me Home the fifth best selling album of 2012 in the US. This made them the first act to place 2 albums in the year end top five. Up All Night and Take Me Home were the number 3 and number 4 best selling albums of 2012 globally. 1D performed Little Things at the 2012 Royal Variety Performance and headlined a sold out show at New York City's Madison Square Garden on December 3rd. One Direction 2013 In February One Direction released a cover version of One Way or Another and Teenage Kicks and was called One Way or Another (Teenage Kicks) as the 2013 Comic Relief single. They performed this song at the 2013 BRIT Awards at which they won the newly created Global Success Award. One Direction embarked on their second concert tour in February, called the Take Me Home Tour. The tour consists of over 100 shows in Europe, North America and Australasia. Ticket sales reached 300,000 within a day of release in the UK and Ireland which included a six date sell out. Additionally Sony Pictures Entertainment announced in November 2012 that a 3D biopic film centering the group in this production. It is planned to be released by TriStar Pictures on August 30th. On twitter Niall has 10 million followers as of the February 24th. Niall Horan A Biography Niall Horan has had a love for music for as long as he can remember. Now he's in a very famous English/Irish boy band from the UK. Now thanks to himself, Simon Cowell, his 4 band mates, his fans and a few others along the way he has become a huge success.
