Hi, my name is Linda, and my name is Mei. Today we will be teaching you all about pop music.
(You might want to grab some popcorn :)
Pop music, a term that originally comes from an abbreviation of "popular", is a genre of popular music which originated in it's modern form in the 1950s, coming from rock and roll. As a genre, pop music is very different, often borrowing elements from other styles including urban, dance, rock, Latin and country; nonetheless, there are core elements which define pop. Such include generally short-to-medium length songs, written in a basic format (often the verse-chorus structure), as well as the common employment of repeated choruses, melodic tunes, and catchy hooks.
The Jackson 5
The Jackson 5 (also spelt as The Jackson Five and sometimes stylized as The Jackson 5ive), later known as The Jacksons was a popular American musical family group from Gary, Indiana. Here are some songs that they sang:
ABC (1970), I Want You Back (1973) Dancing Machine (1973), Blame It on the Boogie (1978) Rockin' Robin (2010) and many, many, more.
