Solving Radford University's Dismal Dining

Problems with RU's Balanced U Program
Balanced U program is meant to serve as a quick and easy way of identifying which foods will meet your special needs and dietery restrictions
These labels are nowhere to be found other than RU's website
RU: Vegetarian, Vegan, and Gluten-free Unfriendly
It's not easy having these diet requirements
Very few campus food locations have these options available
Hard to eat clean on campus, most meals are overly processed and high in calories
We Need More Water Stations!
Water is the basis of a healthy diet
Only a handful of stations to refill water bottles available on campus
Many more soda machines than water stations to fill your Highlander Nalgene bottle
What Nutritional Information?
Most of the campus restaurants do not have full nutrition guides with list of ingredients
Knowing how many calories, sodium content and trans fat are in a meal is the first step to making healthier choices
WARNING!! ALLERGENS AHEAD
A New Balanced U
RU: Now Vegetarian, Vegan, and Gluten-Free Friendly
1:1 Ratio for Water Refilling Stations
Tailored for You
Common allergens: Soy, Gluten, Peanuts, Tree Nuts, Lactose, Shellfish
There are little visible warnings for those with serious food allergies
Students with allergies have to find out on their own where they could come into contact with these ingredients
Start Small
We propose the University could simply add calorie counts beside EVERY menu item
Tidal Rave Entertainment would like to install free-standing guides with nutritional information by the lines for each restaurant on campus
Placement of educational health relevant information on tables
Ban of trans fat from RU to increase health
Every menu item should have the corresponding icon right next to it
Have each food eatery have at least one vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free option
Color code them on the menu so they are easy to identify
Have a new location that offers healthy, clean, and low-cal "grab-n-go" options
Adopt a program similar to VT's Farm and Fields Project
There will be new water bottle refilling stations on every floor in every building
Make sure that for every soda machine we have at least one water refilling station on campus
Water refilling stations would also reduce the amount of trash RU produces
Tailored notification system for people with allergies
Information Kiosk set up in major dining venues that include specially prepared menu items and information about allergies

In Conclusion
We aim to better inform students about the food RU has available
Create an overall healthier student body, with students satisfied with the healthy choices they are making
