When the days are cold
And the cards all fold
And the saints we see
Are all made of gold

When your dreams all fail
And the ones we hail
Are the worst of all
And the blood’s run stale

I wanna hide the truth
I wanna shelter you
But with the beast inside
There’s nowhere we can hide

No matter what we breed
We still are made of greed
This is my kingdom come
This is my kingdom come

When you feel my heat
Look into my eyes
It’s where my demons hide
It’s where my demons hide
Don’t get too close
It’s dark inside
It’s where my demons hide
It’s where my demons hide

At the curtain’s call
It's the last of all
When the lights fade out
All the sinners crawl

So they dug your grave
And the masquerade
Will come calling out
At the mess you made

Don't wanna let you down
But I am hell bound
Though this is all for you
Don't wanna hide the truth

No matter what we breed
We still are made of greed
This is my kingdom come
This is my kingdom come

When you feel my heat
Look into my eyes
It’s where my demons hide
It’s where my demons hide
Don’t get too close
It’s dark inside
It’s where my demons hide
It’s where my demons hide

They say it's what you make
I say it's up to fate
It's woven in my soul
I need to let you go

Your eyes, they shine so bright
I wanna save that light
I can't escape this now
Unless you show me how

When you feel my heat
Look into my eyes
It’s where my demons hide
It’s where my demons hide
Don’t get too close
It’s dark inside
It’s where my demons hide
It’s where my demons hide

Lyrics
"Demons" by Imagine Dragons is a song about a man who feels oppressed and dissatisfied in the world he lives in. He believes he is a harmful person and warns the subject in the song to stay away.
It is addressing the ugly reality that each one of us has secrets that we are not proud of and that we try to hide them from the world. Talks about hiding the truth to protect the ones we love. "Look into my eyes; its where my demons hide." So many people try to hide their problems but if you look close enough you can see the pain.
The tone of the song is very somber this is noticeable by the word choices and phrases used in the song. For example "Days are cold" and "Don't get too close its dark inside."
The song makes the listener feel gloomy but the pace of the song is not as slow as a typical sad song would be. The speed of the song could imitate desperation of the speaker; how much he wants the subject to steer clear of him.
Speaker could possibly be a lover who has made a decision to stay away from his inamorata.

Authors of this song were, Ben McKee, Dan Platzman, Dan Reynolds, Wayne Sermon, Alexander Grant, Josh Mosser
The song has many examples of external rhymes such as: cold, fold and gold; hail, fail and stale.
