We all enjoy science class; from the experiments, to Science Fairs, and cool demonstrations. Science is fun and safe, as long as we know the rules and regulations. This presentation will explain and help you understand the general safety rules when having class in or out of the lab.
RULES AND REGULATIONS

Work surfaces are to be cleaned at the end of each laboratory or activity.
Solid chemicals, metals, matches, filter papers, broken glass, and other materials designated by the instructor are to be deposited in proper waste containers, and not in the sink. Follow your your instructor's directions for disposal of waste.
Sinks are to be used for the disposal of water and those solutions designated by the instructor. Other solutions must be placed in the designated waste disposal containers.
Glassware is to be washed with hot, soapy water and scrubbed with the appropriate type and sized brush, rinsed, dried, and returned to its original location.
Goggles are to be worn during the activity or investigation, clean up, and through hand washing.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WITH CHEMICALS
Behave in a responsible manner at all times, in or out of the lab. Mischievous behavior such as throwing objects is prohibited.
Safety rules and procedures should be read prior to your class in the lab and should be followed at all times.
Eating and drinking are not permitted, as well as applying makeup and contact lenses.
Unsupervised or unauthorized lab activities are STRICTLY prohibited.
LISTEN TO THE TEACHER AT ALL TIMES.
STUDENT CONDUCT
COMMON SENSE HELPS PREVENT ACCIDENTS!

AVOID THIS ^^
Avoid inhaling in fumes.
Never fill pipettes by mouth suction, use suction bulbs or pumps.
Never force down glass tubing into rubber stoppers, instead use glycerin or lubricant to ease the glass into the stopper. Hold the tubing with a towel.
Proper procedures should always be followed especially when heating a flame. Never leave it unattended.
In the event of a fire drill during an experiment, make sure to turn off all electrical equipment and exit the room as directed.
Always read the labels on reagent bottles twice before using it.
Cover the reagent bottle after use and return it to the designated area.
Don't return used chemicals to containers, dispose or store them with the instructors directions.
Personal Safety

Wear safety goggles as instructed by the teacher.
Wear an apron for hazardous activities.
If any accidents like chemical spills and injuries happen, it must be reported to the teacher immediately.
Dress appropriately for laboratory work.
Hair ties should be worn.
No dangling jewelry.
Know where safety equipment is located.
If there is any organism present within the room, do not handle it without the teacher's instructions.

MAINTAINING A SAFE LAB ENVIRONMENT
Backpacks and books are to remain in an area designated by the instructor and shall not be brought into laboratory area.
Never sit on laboratory tables.
Work areas should be kept clean and neat at all times.
