Transcript of A cruise into Gabby Douglas' life!
By: Madison Wright
While on the trip, I learned a lot and I hope you did too. Hopefully, you learned some things that you didn't know about her before. If you want to learn more about her, there are 2 books that she wrote about her life called
and Glory: My Leap of Faith & Raising the Bar.

Gabby Douglas started out her journey when she was born on December 31, 1995 in Virginia Beach, VA.
When she was a baby, Gabby and her family lived in their blue minivan and slept on the hard floor. At age 3, her sister, Arielle, taught Gabby how to do a perfectly straight cartwheel. Gabby then taught herself how to do a one-handed cartwheel at age 4.
Trials & Success
Stars & Idols
Gabby loved the Olympics. She loved watching Shawn Johnson do all of her stunts and floor exercise performances. Gabby saw Shawn's coach talking to her off the floor, and Gabby knew who would be her coach for the Olympics right away.
New Family & Competition
When Gabby was 14, she moved from Virginia Beach, VA all the way to West Des Moines, IA to work with the coach she saw on TV, Liang Chow. She lived with the Partons. They were her host family while she was there. They have four girls and Gabby was the big sister when she came. She then went to San Jose, CA to the Olympic Trials, and she was the only one going home with a guaranteed spot on the Olympic Team by winning the competition.
The Fierce 5
At 16, she and her 4 other teammates travel to London, England for the 2012 Olympics. While she was there, Gabby won two gold medals, one for winning the all-around champion and another for her part in the team championship.
When Gabby was 6, Arielle begged their mom to take Gabby to a gym to start training if she wanted to fulfill her dream. When she was 8, she had trouble with a move on the uneven bars called the "kip". She had practiced over and over again, and then she finally mastered the kip. SUCCESS!!!!
