Transcript of Interior Plains Of Canada

The Interior Plains region of Canada is located between the Cordillera and the Canadian Shield. This region has many interesting landforms. Some of the landforms found in this region are hills, low mountains, forests, wide river valleys, and prairie grass. The scenery of the Interior Plains region can be labeled as mainly flat with prairie grasslands. Vegetation
The Interior Plains region of Canada was once covered with many different kinds of grasses. The vegetation today has grasses with long roots like bluestems, June grass and porcupine grass as well as pine, spruce and fir trees. This vegetation grows here because lots of farmers grow oat, barley, wheat and more plants. The farmers want to live there because there is a lot of area for their big farms. They also like it because there is the perfect amount of water and sunlight for them. Wildlife
A variety of wildlife can be found throughout the Interior Plains region. Some of the animals include mule deer, pronghorn antelopes, brown bears, wolves, and elks. These animals make this region their home because there is lots of space and food. Climate
The climate of the Interior Plains region differs throughout the year. Summers can be between 10ºC and 30ºC. Winters can be between -10ºC and -30ºC. The Interior Plains region has more sunlight each year than any other region in Canada. People
Many of the people live in small communities and large cities in the Interior Plains. Three of the largest cities in the Interior Plains are Edmonton, Calgary, and Winnipeg. Some of the larger cultural groups include Natives, Metis, and French. There are a wide variety of cultural groups that live in this region. Natural Resources
In this the mining of fuel products like oil, natural gas, coal, potash copper, zinc, gold and uranium is crucial. Here Canadians take these resources that lie below the Plains and improve or make these resources into other products that all Canadians need on a daily basis. Since most of the Interior Plains are flat, transportation of goods and services is easily done by trains, pipelines, and trucks. Global Changes
Significant anxiety has been expressed over the potential for global warming arising from the toxic gases in the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide have been known as sponsors to global climate warming through the greenhouse gas effect in the upper atmosphere. Uncertainty remains as to what climate changes would eventually arise as the attentiveness of these gases increases. How the Interior Plains is Unique
Each city in the Interior Plains has different businesses, services, and resources depending on the city you are in. Crops such as wheat, barley, oats, flax, canola, mustard, potatoes, corn and sugar beets are grown. Farmers also raise cows, pigs, poultry etc. Interior Plains
