Hull is through to the last four
cities in the race to become
UK city of culture 2013.

95% of Hull was destroyed or
damaged during the blitz in
WWII. This was because of
Hull’s reputation as one of the
UK’s major ports.

Hull has three major professional
sports teams. Hull City play football
in the English FA Premier league
whilst Hull FC and Hull KR compete
at rugby in the Super league.

Hull stands on the
River Hull where it
meets the Humber
estuary and is 25
miles east of the
North Sea.

Hull was the first UK
city to have cream,
instead of red,
telephone boxes.

Hull has a population
of around 513,000
people.
