+ October 4, 1957 Soviet Union launched Sputnik I.

+ Space Race: U.S.A. vs. U.S.S.R

+ January 31, 1958 US released the explorer.

Educational Impact
+ Creation of N.A.S.A, passed the "Space Act"

+ National Defense Education Act passed in 1958
-Funding to schools

+ More emphasis was places on Math and Science and less time on Art and Music.
