9th month of lunar calendar
Very special event that is anticipated all year long
Fasting for 30 days
Time to re-evaluate and clean up our lives, thoughts, and feelings.
Spiritual practice in many religions
Muslims fast to obey God's commandment - obedience
Fasting begins at dawn and ends at sunset
During that time, no food, drinks, smoking, sexual relations
Also no false behaviour or speech
Fasting also slows down aging

Festive celebration for a complete month of fasting
1. Strengthen self-control
2. Closeness to God
3. Practice better character
4. Remember the poor
5. Encourage charity and generosity

Fasting is obligatory for all adult Muslims capable of fasting (no children, elderly, sick, disabled, pregnant, etc)
Special Ramadan prayer at night

During Ramadan people increase in prayers, Quran recitation, doing good to others, making food for people
Communities gather in mosques and community centers to pray together
Morning Eid prayer in mosques with all community members
People wear new clothing
