Transcript of DJ ASHBA

DJ ASHBA DJ Ashba (Real name will not be used due to the fact he's not real crazy about his real name) was born in Monticello Indiana on the early Friday morning of November 10th, 1972. At age 1, The Ashba family moved to Fairbury Illinois, a small country farm town, raised by his mother, a classical pianist, who taught DJ about music at a young age. He was instantly obsessed with it. DJ started playing piano at age 3 and played his first recital at age 5, where he performed Beethoven’s classical masterpiece “Ode to Joy.” At age 6 he began studying the drums. DJ would set up garbage cans, pots and pans, buckets, and whatever else he could find to resemble a drum kit. He would beat on them for months and months, hours on end.
After finally getting a real set of drums, he studied rhythm. At age 8, DJ worked detasseling corn in the fields for one year until he was able to buy his first electric guitar out of the Sears catalog. The Harmony white Flying V was priced at $89.00. As he rode on the bus to and from the corn fields each day, he sat with a friend he made, an older guitar player from a local band. DJ would take his pocket knife and carve a fret board on the seat in front of them. His buddy would take the knife, poke 3 holes, and say “That's an A chord,” go home and practice that tonight.

DJ grew up in a 8 bedroom house with no TV, due to his religious mother. He would do nothing but sit in his room and practice his new guitar 17 hours a day. At age 16 DJ went to live with his father in Logansport, Indiana for a year, before moving back to Fairbury.
No T.V. 17 hrs a day Logansport, IN For his 16th birthday his dad took him to his first concert: the Motley Crue - Girls, Girls, Girls Tour. It was the night that changed his life forever. At age 19 DJ packed up all his things in his mini van and drove himself to Hollywood California, where he joined a band called Barracuda. He toured with the band for two years.

Motley Crue Girls Girls Girls tour Hollywood, CA DJ then released his first instrumental album "ASHBA: Addiction to the Friction,” and signed his first record deal. DJ then went on to win 6 Best Guitar Player Awards. DJ Ashba co-founded the band Beautiful Creatures and landed a deal with Warner Brother Records. He wrote all the music for the Warner release, and songs such as “Ride” landed in the Warner Brothers major motion picture Rollerball. The song “Wasted” landed in the movie "Valentine." In addition, the song “1a.m.” landed in both the TV hit show Smallville and the Howard Stern show.
Beautiful Creatures Howard Stern Show Smallville Warner Brother's Records The first concert Beautiful Creatures played was with Kiss on the farewell tour in front of 60,000 people. The band's numerous other tours include Ozzfest 2001, the Rolling Rock tour, a Japanese tour and dates with Marilyn Manson. Beautiful Creatures released the video for “Wasted” on MTV as well as a full concert for HBO Reverb.
Kiss Marilyn Manson Beautiful Creatures National TV hits also include the band's appearance with Knoc-Tourn-Al on the Craig Kilborn Show. Along with two performance highlights that stand out were at the Sundance Film Festival and Mile High Stadium. DJ Ashba is endorsed by over 15 major music companies. He has toured the world, blowing away audiences with his out-of-control stage performances. DJ has appeared in Rolling Stone and numerous other world-wide ads and videos. Craig Kilborn These days, DJ Ashba has teamed up with Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx as songwriting partners. The two have opened an amazing, state of the art facility called Funny Farm Studios, were they have written and produced songs for multiple platinum recording artists. As the motto goes, Funny Farm is “Where Hits Are Made: A Nikki Sixx and DJ Ashba Creation. DJ formed another solo band, simply titled ASHBA after his departure from Beautiful Creatures where he added former Tuff guitarist Michael Thomas, who was Ashba's replacement in BC but then left the group in 2003, bassist John Younger and drummer Bones Elias rounded out the groups lineup. Also in 2003, Ashba was invited to participate in the group Brides of Destruction with Nikki Sixx and Tracii Guns but turned it down to focus on his solo project. In 2005, a small controversy was caused when it was suggested that neither Tommy nor Mick played on the new tracks for Mötley Crüe's compilation album Red, White & Crüe (duties were supposedly handled by Vandals drummer Josh Freese and Ashba as well as Mick being replaced by Ashba on their reunion tour. Ashba hit back at the rumours:

“ 'Just want to set the record straight. As much as I would love to play on tour with Mötley, it's simply not true...it's a rumor. I'll be in the studio and playing shows with ASHBA. I have all the respect in the world for Mötley Crüe and I can't wait to see Mick kick ass, as always."
Ashba Brides of Destruction Josh Freese Mick Mars Motley Crue Red,White, & Crue rumors A VH1 documentary of the band reuniting would later show that Lee did indeed play on some of the tracks.
In 2006 Ashba set up Funny Farms Studios with Nikki Sixx. They began writing and producing, and performing music together which included collaborations with singer Marion Raven, whom Sixx had worked with before, on her Heads Will Roll EP and album Set Me Free. James Michael also is credited on the albums. In March 2007, Sixx penned Reason I'm Alive for Drowning Pool's new album Full Circle with both Sixx and Ashba co-producing the track. Nikki Sixx & Tommy Lee Nikki Sixx & Dj Funny Farm James Michaels Tommy Lee In March 2009, the Guns N' Roses announced that DJ Ashba would substitute for Robin Finck. Replacing Robin Finck (who was one of the many guitarists to play lead on GNR’s latest album, Chinese Democracy), Ashba received nothing but the highest level of praise from Axl Rose himself: “We’re very excited to have the opportunity to work together. Guns’ radar has silently been aware of DJ’s presence for quite some time. He brings a fresh approach to our particular brand of mayhem expanding the tapestry of Guns N’ Roses live. Once DJ’s name was in the hat, the hat disappeared” His most high-profile gig to date, Ashba has some mighty tall boots to fill, standing in for reknowned riff-meisters like GNR’s original guitarist, Slash and (one of) Slash’s replacement, NIN’s Robin Finck. Crowds who caught DJ’s live performances with Sixx:A.M. on the first Cruefest outing last summer will attest to Ashba’s prowess as a guitarist and a dynamic stage presence who is as much about crowd as he is the music.

To go side by side with the book. I spoke with DJ Ashba a few weeks ago and I asked him this.."Do you believe that one person can change the world?" His reply wasn't to surprising.
