TYPE OF RESEARCH

Action research
Action research is mostly used in qualitative research
To apply action research it can be used different tools to collect data such as:
keeping a journal, questionnaires, interviews, or simply observation
.

An action plan provides you a concrete timetable and defined steps to follow to obtain good results.
In an Action research you need to create an Action Plan

ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION OF THE DATA
INSTRUMENT #1 – “CHILDREN RATING SCALE “

Objective:
To assess the acceptance and effectiveness of the handicraft activities used in class for improving attitude toward learning on students coursing 1st grade at Centro Escolar de Colonia Santa Luisa at San Miguel city.

The following list details show how the below frequency table is structured:
 Population: 220
 Sample: 20 ( from the sample only 18 students answered the instrument)
 Each instrument contains 10 Items, Which turns into a total of 180 Items.
 Rating for the acceptance: High, Middle and low

Analysis:
The following table represents the level of acceptance that the use of the handicraft activities had in class. This can be notice by interpreting the biggest percent (0.97%) which clarifies how much students liked the activities. The second percent (0.03%) shows that not all the students liked every activity in a high level but they neither dislike them

GRAPHIC OF THE FREQUENCY TABLE
Analysis:
In the current graphic it is shown the level of acceptance of the different handicraft activities applied in the class. In a sample of 20 students, 18 which filled a rating scale to express how much they liked the activities.
In the lower level it is expressed the number of items of the survey proportionated, while in the upper level in the left side it is expressed the level of acceptance

Table of Frecuency
INSTRUMENT #2. CHECKLIST.

Objective: To measure students attitude while using handicraft activities.

The following list details show how the below frequency table is structured:
 Each researcher used a checklist to evaluate student’s attitude at the moment of using the handicraft activities.
 They checklist consist of 10 Items each one.
 The attitude indicators for this instrument are: Interest, Participation, Collaboration, Attention and Attendance.

FREQUENCY TABLE
Analysis:
The following table represents how attitude indicators were measured by the checklist used to observe the English class while students were using the handicraft activities. It can be seen that their behavior was mainly positive, with the exception of the attendance, because some of the students were absent in the class.

GRAPHIC OF THE FREQUENCY TABLE
Analysis:
In the current graphic is shown that the student’s attitude while developing the handicraft activities was mainly positive, and most of the attitude indicators have more than 7 “yes” answers which indicates a positive attitude toward learning.

CONCLUSIONS

 English teachers should motivate students through applying the appropriate methodology depending on the kind of learners they have.

 The content and procedure to develop English classes should be modified according to students’ comprehension level, not forgetting time and a variety of well-planned activities to keep students’ interest over the English area.

 Using kinesthetic activities for active students is really effective if it is well applied to the content.

 Student’s attitude can be increased by using variations in class activities by respecting their differences and ways of comprehending.

 Children learn more by doing things than by listening teacher talk for long periods of time.

 Young student’s attitude toward learning can be modified positively by gaining their trust and making them have fun in everyday class.

RECOMMENDATIONS

To future English Teachers:

To elaborate a diagnostic evaluations before starting teaching any group of students.

To vary the activities they will use.

To adequate the teaching materials with the learning styles and kind of intelligence of each student.

To Universidad de Oriente (UNIVO):

To give English practitioners/ researchers more time to discover the reality of the school they will be facing in their teaching practice.

To prepare the future practitioners for real life content of what they will be dealing with in social life in the teaching field.
