Transcript of Spoiled by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan

Cocks and Morgan used plot structure, point of view, pun, personification, characterization, conflict, setting, imagery, irony, hyperbole, and comparisons to show that sadness and neglect can be covered up so well no one notices, until the person neglected snaps. When: Current day Where: United States, Los Angeles, the Bel Air area.
Brick’s mansion, Colby-Randall high school, and other various places in Bel Air. Setting Metaphor

“Molly slowly looked around and saw she was at the center of a radioactive halo ringed by countless pairs of eyes openly staring at her”(Cocks and Morgan 88). Simile

“Worse, it cast pall on her shopping day to know Shelby was lurking around, as annoying as the old tube of lip gloss currently leaking at the bottom of Brooke’s handbag” (Cocks and Morgan 9).

“Also, you can’t just keep bouncing back and forth from West Cairo to L.A. like a ping – pong ball every time something goes wrong”(Cocks and Morgan). Comparisons “They pulled up to an ivy-colored brick wall and robust fuchsia bougainvillea bushes. The gate swung open to reveal a gravel driveway running through a tunnel of trees and across a green and perfect lawn, up to a white house larger than Molly’s high school in Indiana”(Cocks and Morgan 45). Imagery External conflict: Brooke vs. Molly
Brooke does mean things to get Molly to want to go home, but pushes it to far and Molly starts fighting back.

Internal conflict: Brooke vs. Brooke
Molly looks like Brick, and Brooke and Brick only use the same type of bronzer. Brick only paid Brooke some attention her whole life since he’s a huge actor and always at sets, and now Molly is here and Brick is trying to make sure Molly’s always happy. Since Brooke’s mom left and she is fighting with Molly, she has no “family”, and struggles with remaining the self-confident, popular person everyone knows her as. Conflict Indirect characterization:
“There was an audible gasp, which Brooke chose to ignore in favor of keeping things on her favorite subject: herself”(Cocks and Morgan 67). Direct characterization:
“She caught her own eye in the nearest of the four full-length mirrors and cocked her head. Usually Brooke loved what she saw: tall, thin, naturally golden blonde”(Cocks and Morgan 69). Round, dynamic: Brooke Berlin(antagonist)

Round, dynamic: Molly Dix Berlin(protagonist)

Flat, static: Stan (Brick’s personal assistant)

Flat, static: Brick Berlin Characterization By: Emily Williamson Spoiled
by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan Brooke says ”Math is a lot to deal with. A crater-faced half sister from the sticks crashing the most important night of my life is a total nightmare”(Cocks and Morgan 17). When Brooke meets Molly however she fakes being happy. “”I’m so happy to meet you!” Brooke squealed, hugging her before Molly even had a chance to get out of her seat” (Cocks and Morgan 58) Irony “One night, they’d slept at a Holiday Inn that Brooke was pretty sure hadn’t seen house-keeping since a murder happened in its bathtub”(Cocks and Morgan 359). Hyperbole “The grapevine was growing up around her and squeezing her to a pulp”(Cocks and Morgan 89). personification “Your dress rehearsal last night was seamless”(Cocks and Morgan 315). Pun (third person omniscient) “Brooke truly believe anything could be fixed by flexing the trusty plastic rectangles in her wallet”(Cocks and Morgan 2).

“Molly was hit by a wave of nostalgic, melancholy fondness for her friend”(Cocks and Morgan 27). Point of view Resolution:
Without Molly knowing, Brick and Brooke are coming to surprise Molly and bring her back to LA. Falling Action:
Molly talks to childhood friends and visits her mom’s grave to clear head. Climax:
Brooke makes a big mistake which is to much for Molly to handle, so Molly gets on the next plane to Indiana without saying good-bye. Rising Action:
Brick tries to make Molly happy and continues to only pay half attention to Brooke, like he has for the past 14 years. Brooke doesn’t want Molly to stay, so she hits low trying to get her to go home. When Brooke pushes it too far Molly fights back. They connect like real sisters and actually enjoy each others presence. Exposition:
Brooke, the daughter of famous actor Brick Berlin, finds out she has a half-sister, Molly, who is a couple months older than her. Molly is the secret love child of Brick and Molly’s mom. Molly is coming to live with Brooke and their dad since her mom died of cancer. Plot Structure "I Love (Heart) My Sister - Baby Bib." - Baby & Child. N.p., n.d. She thinks anything that isn't designer isn't "cool". This song would be Brooke's cover, because underneath Brooke is hurt because her dad doesn't pay very much attention to her and her mom left her without looking back. So she uses clothes and confidence to hide her feelings YouTube. YouTube, n.d. Web. 16 Nov. 2012. <http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage>.
