Goths love Dark fantasy novels and goth literature. They take reading seriously and take the meaning of the words in the books they read into real consideration, goths do the same with poetry as well. One of the first really well known goth novels is The castle of otranto: a Gothic story by Horace Walpole, it was published in 1764. Another very famous and probably the most well known Gothic novel would be Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte, this was her first and only novel and it wsa published in 1847. Also because of the lyrics of their songs and the message it sends.

Goths will also listen to dark wave music as part of their culture. Another early Gothic rock band who are dark wave would be Bauhaus who also are a big influence on Goths. The Cruxshadows are one of the biggest dark wave bands around and have been active since 1992. The Cruxshadows www.wikipedia.org/thecruxshadows Bauhaus www.lastfm.com A big spin off genre of Gothic rock music would be Gothic metal which started in the early 90's and became extremly popular by the late 90's. Gothic metal is heavier music wise and darker than Gothic rock. The first Gothic metal band was Type o negative, who were formed in 1989 and became a huge success as they started Gothic metal. Type o negative broke up in 2010 after being active for 21 years but they are still one of the biggest Gothic metal bands today.

5 years before the break up of Type o negative another well known Gothic metal band formed in 2005 called Motionless in White and are known for their dark and gloomy lyrics and for their black heavy Goth make up. www.travisfaulk.com Motionless in white Type o Negative www.roadrunnerrecords.com Cyber Goth is a subculture that combines Goth, rave, river head fashion and cyber punk together as one. The cyber goth subculture began in the late 1980's not long after the Goth subculture started.
Unlike Traditional Goths Cyber Goths wear bright vibrant and glow in the dark clothing rather than black leather clothing. They also wear bright glow make up and neon fluorescent coloured make up rather than black heavy make up or pale white make up. Cyber goths will also listen to electronic dance music rather than rock or Gothic rock music.
They will also wear bright colours in their hair as well as on their clothes, dreadlocks are a very common hairstyle with cyber Goths and extremly popular Cyber Goth www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGgMZpGYiy8 Friday I'm in love music video
