Using #hashtags to identify the #mainideas
Creating #hashtags that emphasize the main idea of a sentence or paragraph is a tool to clearly see the important facts.
After you have identified the main ideas of a text, you will be able to create sentences using your own words.

A hashtag is used on social media sites (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) and is a word or phrase beginning with # and used to identify messages on a specific topic. #mainidea #extrathoughts

Hashtags can be used as a tool to help identify the main ideas of a text.
Step 1: Read the sentence. Pay close attention to the key ideas and purpose of the sentence.
Step 2: Choose which ideas you think are the most important. Highlight the words you chose.
Step 3: The highlighted words will be your hashtags. Write them down.
Step 4; Your hashtags represent the main ideas of the sentence. Using the #hashtags create a new sentence or sentences that rewrites the main ideas that are highlighted.
Think back to President Obama's Twitter page? What were his #hashtags? Why were they important?
