Transcript of The New York Colony

New York Colony
Natural Resources and Products of the New York Colony
The New York colony was a part of the breadbasket colonies. The colonies got their name of the breadbasket colonies because they grew so many crops. In addition, the New York colony mostly grew wheat, which is a cash crop. Also they had timber(wood), fur, coal, iron, and ore, an important resource ,and all
those resources were used
for trade.

New York was first called New Amsterdam by the Dutch until British took it over. It was named after the Duke of York or King James II. He was the leader. They had many faiths which fits in between the Puritan colonies of New England and the Catholic colonies on New York. They also had religous freedom.
When the Dutch still owned New Amsterdam(New York), they captured African Americans and used them as slaves. They brought them using cargo ships. The company became mostly slaves when they wanted lots of money.
