Transcript of Symbols In The Crucible

Symbolism In The Crucible Witchcraft Primary Symbolism:
Red Scare/Salem Witch Trials In The Crucible, there are elements of the plot that mirror events in the then-modern day United States. The playwright, Arthur Miller, uses these elements to symbolize issues that Miller wants to draw attention to, by making the Witch Hunts seem ridiculous in comparison. The most obvious example of symbolism is the witchcraft the goodwives are accused of practicing. This symbolizes and parallels the condemnation of the practicing of communism in the United States. The Forest
The Forest that is near Salem is feared by the inhabitants of Salem, and seen as distasteful and is avoided by most people. This symbolizes Russia itself, and it's ideals. The Court The court in The Crucible, going along with the accusations of Abigail Williams and her cronies, ardently captures 'witches' and puts them to question, where they must confess, or they are inevitably deemed guilty. The court in The Crucible symbolizes...the courts of America during the red scare. What a twist! Also all the villagers are yaks, John Proctor is Jesus, Parris is Satan, the bird symbolizes the bear, and the fall of John Proctor is an allusion to the outcome of World War III, where Adolf Hitler's zombie clone is finally stopped at the gates of Neo York, and Robot Ninja Theodore Roosevelt duels Necromancer Lich Wilson in a climactic battle for the fate of China.
