Transcript of Reasons the Drinking Age Should be Lowered to 18

Lowering the drinking age to 18 could in turn lower the amount of out of control, unsupervised parties full of minors and create more moderate drinkers.

Purpose
I will show you how lowering the drinking age to 18 would create a more educated youth through alcohol education programs, reasons why an 18 year old should have the right to choose if he or she drinks, and how the current drinking age of 21 is largely ineffective as teens continue to consume alcohol.

Uneducated Youth
5,000 deaths of people under the age of 21 from alcohol related incidents. (National institute of alcohol abuse and alcoholism)

Right to vote, buy guns, join the military...but not drink
18 year old men and women are legally considered adults, therefore they should have equal rights.
The legal age of 21 has never stopped minors from drinking
According to the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, by age 18 at least 70% of adults have had at least one drink.

Solutions
In an effort to educate young people on the effects of alcohol, high school education on alcohol awareness must be implemented.
Zero Tolerance Policy
Zero Tolerance Laws make it illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to drive with even the smallest trace of alcohol. (Underage dui’s: zero tolerance policy)
