What is Discipleship?
What is a Disciple?
Disciple: one who engages in learning through instruction from another; a pupil; an apprentice.
A disiple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. It is enough for the disciple to be
like his teacher
, and the servant
like his master
.
- Matthew 10:24-25
A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be
like his teacher
.
- Luke 6:40
If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. Whoever does not
bear his own cross
and
come after me
cannot be my disciple.
-Luke 14:26-27
So, therefore, any one who does not
renounce all that he has
cannot be my disciple.
- Luke 14:33

If you
abide in my word
, you are truly my disciples.
- John 8:31
The state of being a disciple or follower in doctrines and precepts.
By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if
you have love for one another
.
- John 13:35
By this my Father is glorified, that you
bear much fruit
and so prove to be my disciples.
- John 15:8
By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.
- John 15:8

Learning and following involve discipline, for those who only learn accidentally and follow incidentally are not true disciples.
- Don Whitney
If our discipleship is not to be accidental and incidental, it must be purposeful
