Analysis
Author's Purpose
The story of how Miloš Forman became director of the movie is a long one, but all in all, Forman read the novel,
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
, and he found it so interesting that he wanted to make a movie adaptation of it. This would make Forman's purpose very similar to the purpose of the author of the novel, Ken Kesey. Ken Kesey stated in an interview that when he was put in a mental institution he was inspired to write the novel. He experienced first hand the horrible treatment of patients in mental institutions. Even to this day, electroshock therapy is used to keep patients in line. Ken Kesey and Miloš Forman both wanted to bring this abuse to attention.
